Spotify randomly stops playing

Solved!

Spotify randomly stops playing

Anyone recognize this; When listening to music (playlist, radio of after a search) Spotify stops playing. Sometimes it plays for 10 song, sometimes 4, it's just random. The progress bar continues but there's no sound. When I try to fast forward by dragging the progress bar it simply jumps back to 0 seconds and starts counting again. When I perform a search this also isn't working. Also syncing doesn't work. Clearly, the latest Android app loses connection. All other apps that use internet don't stop working during the Spotify failure, I have a 60 Mbps connection so this can't be the problem. I get Spotify to work again by force-closing the app using the task manager on my Samsung Galaxy tab 8.9 (ICS 4.0.4) and restarting the app. I mailed Spotify and hopefully they will do something about it. I am a € 10 paying customer so I expect them to do so. When reading through all the topics there are many more people having connection problems.

Why on earth was this topic flagged as Resolved?  This issue is BY NO MEANS resolved. I have the very latest app, and I can reproduce the problem consistently.

Here is what I have found...

I am almost positive the problem is related to their Spotify Connect feature. I listen to most of my music on my Alexa echo devices, which are connected to my Hi-Fi system. So far I only get this problem to occur when playing to any of the Alexa devices via the Spotify app. If I switch to play on the local computer of phone, then the problem seems to go away. I can reproduce this consistently in my Windows laptop and in my Android phone.

When playing to my Alexa devices, it may play for a while without issue, but suddenly the Play/Pause button switches to Play and the music stops. If I hit Play, sometimes I can hear a very short blip, as if the song is starting to play, but it stops right away and the button switches from Pause to Play. If I keep hitting Play I can mostly get it to start playing the current song after about ten retries, but then it stops when the song ends, and the next song never starts. I have messed with the crossfade options to no avail. Heck, the crossfading doesn't even do anything, as far as I can tell.

Spotify staff, if you are reading this, please unmark this topic as "resolved." Your customers are still affected, and getting more upset every day you continue to ignore us.

I removed the "solutions" from this somewhat old and meandering thread. In your shoes, I'd have started a new thread but no worries 🙂

I'm a bit confused as Amazon Echo is a connect device so you aren't streaming from your mobile - the Echo streams direct from spotify. It might help to pin down where things are going wrong if you try the following:

Close spotify on all devices except your android.

Start playing a long playlist via connect from your android then force stop spotify and see if the Echo keeps playing. Resist the temptation to fire up spotify anywhere while testing.

Let me know what happens.

Hi Joe, thanks for the reply.

I will sure keep your instructions to try the next time this happens. Right
now things seems to be working fine, after I rebooted the Echo device to
which I was connecting. Weird, because the Echo device wasn't giving me any
trouble or signs that anything was wrong with it. I could play music on it
from Pandora and Amazon without a hitch. From Spotify, I could play some
things, but anytime I tried playing a Radio station, it would **bleep**.
Switching to "Play on this phone" or "Play on this computer" would
eliminate the issue temporarily. Switching back to playing on any of the
Echo devices would bring the issue back.

I still don't know how or why restarting one of the Echo devices seemed to
fix the problem temporarily, but apparently it did.

So, for now things seem somewhat happy, which is good because we are
getting ready to do some celebrating around here.
You have a happy new year Joe, and thanks again. I will reply if I find
anything new.

Jorge

Just one point. Connect has never supported spotify radio as far as I recall. I seem to remember that this was down to the fact that the version of spotify made available for hardware platforms did not include the radio function but, looking at this issue, this may have changed.

Anyway, when you use connect to play radio, what usually happens is that the tracks listed in the play queue are added to the connect device but they are not refreshed so the music will stop once the last track in the queue is played.

How do you fix this?

Hi there!
I'm having the same problem now (which I never had before and I've been premium for a few years now). I have a Xiaomi Rednote 4, tried a clean reinstall, deleted cache, old files and so on several times. It sometimes just stops playing, but mostly shuts down. I have plenty of space available and nothing seems to work.
Not very happy with paying £10 for an app that doesn't serve the purpose.
Thanks for your advice!

Hi, I'm having exactly the same problem, and I'm sure that is not related to Alexa, because I was having this problem before installing Echo. So I think this problem is related in some way to Spotify Connect because started to happen when I installed the libspotify key in my raspberry. Since that day I'm having "pauses" and "plays" random in any of my connected devices.

Please Spotify Developers take care of this issue is happening since a long time

Thanks

I'm also having the same issue. I've tried restarting my phone, closing and reopening the app, deleting it and reinstalling it, clearing the cache, but nothing seems to be working.

This applies to songs I've downloaded as well as songs I'm streaming so I guess it's a problem with the app.

Has that soundabout app fixed the problem? I have the same issue 😞

hi, no unfortunately not, i had to move to another solution and trash the devices, sad because i thought they where really cool and they also worked very well at the beginning. i have no clue why they stopped working so suddenly, i did every thing i could from reset to firmware upgrade ... i doubt its the device, it has to be something else ... but what? 🙂

Last week the app just started crashing after a few songs tried everything and no progress :l

Same problem here on an android device playing to my bluetooth sony headphones.
It only happens when I am in the tube in London were wifi is only available at stations. Im playing from my offline playlist and it seems to stop as soon as I get wifi signal (coming into the station) or as soon as I lose it (leaving the station). Hope this can help finding a fix.

Have this problem using Spotify on PS4 Pro, it occurs often, only way to correct the problem is close app then reopen.

The audio stops but the track keeps playing, I know its a Spotify problem because when I exit to PS4 Pro main menu the audio is fine.

Could this be happening cause I'm using Spotify on PS4 Pro as a connected device from my Spotify account on the computer?

Well, it's late July of 2017 and the problem is still occurring. Mine plays for about 1 hour and then shuts down....silent as a stone. Very frustrating. Please help!

Work fine for about 2 months suddenly will not play songs from playlist doesn't recognize titles so stop and start indiscriminately. At this point I've checked every website I think it's $170 a piece of **bleep**. Unless someone can post how to fix it Spotify Alexa somebody otherwise it's a doorstop

I have the same problem on an Xperia Z5 with latest Android and spotify software and also use Spotify premium so may email their support, have an app that clears cache regularly though it soon builds up again

Any help appreciated

I have the same problem from a couple of weeks (maybe months). I think the problem is account-wide because I have it regardless the device I am using:

- Macbook Pro Spotify app

- iPhone Spotify app

- Spotify connect on my Marantz HIFI

Spotify ocasionaly stops playing and then out of the blue turns on again after 15-60 minutes. I have a pro account.

Please advice - it's really annoying 😞

Hi @mir84. You can get help with your PC here and with your iphone here. It's unlikely that anyone using android devices will be able to help you.

My issue is about the same. I have Samsung Note 5 with plenty of storage. I play spotify through my wifi connection. I never have much problem with spotify on the whole, but, while listening to music on one of my playlists, the music just stops. Usually it'll stop during, or right after an advert plays. Very annoying issue. I have to click on the "click here" tab when music stops, it will then load the ad on the web, and i have to back up to spotify again. Once I do that, another advert plays, then my music will start playing again. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, cleared cache and deleted tons to make room. Next step will be deletion, then back to Pandoras bull**bleep** (yay)

Having the exact same problem, but on a Windows 10 PC. Just started happening within the last few days. Spotify every 15-60 minutes starts or stops playing.
