My Question or Issue

When my screen is off, there is a very random and unpredictable issue where the music suddenly stops playing. Generally it doesn't restart until I turn my screen on again, but once it also restarted on its own after a while.

I went into the battery optimisation settings and made it "Not optimised" for Spotify, it still happens.

I got the same problem with my S9 after last update. It's really annoying and unacceptable. It's common to keep the music playing when screen off for a music app. How could you release your update without testing?

Please fix it ASAP!!!

Or I may try to get refund and go to another app. I believe others will do the same as well.

This sucks hahaha the same thing happened to me when I moved to a windows phone. I assumed it was because the handset was a bad model. Try log in on another device and see if you have the same issue.

I have been having this since the last update version 8.5.17.676, please can someone look into this issue.

Hey all,

Thanks for notifying us about this.

Let's do a clean reinstall first. Before that, you'd have to separate your offline devices. Disconnect all devices from your account here

Then follow these steps:

1. Go to Settings on your phone.
2. Select "Apps".
3. Tap "Spotify" in the app list.
4. Tap on "Storage> Clear Data" for a clean reinstallation.
5. Tap Uninstall.
6. Open Google Play and install the Spotify Music app.

There is something else you could do if that does not help. Go to:

  • Mobile Settings> Apps> Spotify> Permissions. Allow everything you see there.
  • Mobile settings> Apps> Spotify> Battery> Optimize battery usage> select top All (not optimized for apps)> Spotify> disable
  • Last step - restart the phone. Then everything should be fine 🙂

This solution did not work it fixed the problem for a second and then went back to doing exactly what it did before.  Frankly, there is clearly a major problem mwith the app on Android devices and every single person deserves a full refund since  the time of last update, at the very minimum (considering the wasted time and efforts).  I have gone through every trouble shooting option with the Spotify cares team on Twitter and now this; nothing has solved the problem.

I am at a complete loss and ready to finally end my subscription and uninstall the app for good.

Is there anything else I can try and what can you do about a refund?

Hi @Alitt1,

Thanks for being active in the thread.

Could you let us know the following:

1. your exact Spotify version
2. your device and OS version
3. which steps you have tried

4. which step or steps fixed the problem briefly for you

Thanks in advance, I look forward to your reply 🙂

3/4. The last step I tried the clean reinstall which partially helped
temporarily. Before that, among other things, I tried a regular reinstall,
and separately clearing data/cache, I've changed battery settings,
permissions, I have removed my SD card, confirmed I have enough space on my
phone,

Hi Alitt1 - i have also used the above soloution which has worked, have you made sure the battery optimisation setting is turned off on spotify ?
