Spotify starts playing automatically when a bluetooth device is connected and phone makes a sound

Spotify starts playing automatically when a bluetooth device is connected and phone makes a sound

My Question or Issue

Whenever a bluetooth device is connected to my phone, Spotify automatically starts playing the last song it was paused on if my phone makes any "noise". If I recieve a Messanger message, it starts playing as soon as the "bing" sound is over. It starts playing automatically after I've hung up a call, etc.

I've disabled auto play, I've reinstalled the app and cleared cache.
Under "car view", both "Turn on automatically" and "Always on" is disabled.

I'm unsure what more I can do.

This reply is garbage.  Everyone tries to reinstall and it fixes nothing.  Spotify will take over and there is nothing we can do to stop it.  Stop treating customers like idiots and fix your app

Such**bleep** response. Firmware? Really? We know your company is trying to force us to use Spotify. Just utter nonsense.

April 2025 and still going. Please fix or provide a clear reason this isn't possible on Android, so we can bug the right person.

On my Google 9, home page , hold finger on Spotify app, menu drop down, click on "Pause App"!!!!

On my Google 9 home page, hold finger on Spotify app until drop down menu appears, click "Pause Spotify".

Having almost the same issue:

  • Android 12 phone
  • Car Bluetooth
  • No Android Auto
  • If Spotify is running, whatever was playing autoplays
  • No other music player (e.g. VLC) does that
  • If Spotify was previously force interrupted, it won't play
  • Couldn't find any Android or Spotify option to block it.

Can any of the mods acknowledge the problem exist and engage the eng team please?

So I found how to temporarily shut Spotify app down. Go to phone page where
app is , hold down on app til drop down box appears, press pause, go to
notification page ( drop down on phone) and clear Spotify off screen.

The topic is marked as SOLVED although we all know that it is not.
I have the same problem with my S21 Samsung.
Whenever I finish a call with my earbuds and I put them back in their case, the spotify starts to play from my phone's speaker. This is quite annoying and stressful when Im in Office, as everybody turn to see from where this loud music is coming.
I have found some interesting tips for this problem and I think they work:

Hope it will be helpful...

No matter what i do. Always the App starts new without asking. I cant stop it. I Diesable the App, it starts again from alone. I go out of the Car, come back, the App starts. I stop the Music, go out of the car, come back, the Music starts again. I want to control by myself if i hear music or not.

Since this is obviously a very annoying problem for a significant number of users (myself included), you might also want to look into trying to fix it on your end too, or at least say you're going to take it up with the appropriate internal department at Spotify, instead of giving a PC blow off answer here.

Bonjour,

Merci

Just checking in on if this will be resolved any time soon... 2025 and all

I found pausing app on icon shuts it down until I access a Spotify link
somewhere or unpause the app icon( on Android phone).
