Streaming quality "extreme" gone / replaced

Hi guys

Noticed that the streaming setting "extreme" is gone...and a new one has appeared "very high".

Been reading conflicting report of the bitrate for the new "very high" setting.

Please confirm the bitrate

Hey @home_22_user.

On mobile, the quality settings are as follow:

  • Low – Equivalent to approximately 24kbit/s
  • Normal – Equivalent to approximately 96kbit/s.
  • High – Equivalent to approximately 160kbit/s.
  • Very High – Equivalent to approximately 320kbit/s.
  • Automatic – Dependent on your network connection.

I hope this clears things out.

All the best.

Thx for the clarification.....

Its kinda of funny that a single shift in a word can cause "a lot" of questions - that said it is of course a normal thing that people are wondering, espically since the word "extreme" is still used for the download setting.

Spotify - you had one job!    8-)

I understand.

These mixups should be straightened out in future Spotify versions, but I'll gladly let the right folks know about it.

Feel free to open a new thread if anything else comes up.

All the best.

What does "Equivalent to approximately 320kbit/s." mean?

Is this 320kbps? Or is it some compressed formant (e.g., AAC) that's the rough equivalent of 320 kbps?

Thx!

Hey @dgg5.

Almost all the sound quality settings use the Ogg Vorbis format, except for the 24 kbit/s which uses HE-AACv2 format.

I hope this helps.

Cheers.

Knowing it's Ogg Vorbis helps.

I'm not familiar with the 24 kbit/s rate. When is that used?

Thx!

You're welcome!

The 24kbit/s rate applies only to the Low sound quality setting.

You can set it up when you want to use the minimum amount of data while streaming music on Spotify, and it's pretty good for such a low data usage.

Cheers.
