Synching local files to Android

We use to be able to easily synch local files by just dropping them into a Playlist on the desktop app and then downloading them on the Android app. Worked perfect. Now when you do this the songs wont download. They just show as unavailable and grayed out. I've updated the app fully and checked file formats and encoded them to specific files for spotify but nothing seems to work. Every workaround and forum I've checked I've done every which way. Ut there has never been a defentive answer or post in like 2 years that has any sustanance to any help. What should take 5 minutes has taken 5 hours for 2 songs. What do you have to do to play your own songs on spotify for android?

What phone are you using and Android version? If on Android 6.x Marshmallow ensure you haven't formatted your sd card as adoptable 'internal' storage

I'm using marshmellow and on a note 5 so I don't have any SD card.

I wonder if it's part of this bug: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Ongoing-Issues/Android-Storage-Area-Not-Found/idi-p/1316531

Maybe post your details there for the staff to look at?
