The "Now playing" screen closes when skipping song

Spotify for Android version 8.5.60.1013 has a very annoying new issue where the "now playing" screen (the album art display with pause/play and skip buttons below) closes/minimizes as soon as I skip to the next song. The whole now playing screen closes and is minimized to the "mini version" which is just a small bar on the bottom of the screen with a mini album art and just a play/pause button. This only happens when it's connected to a Spotify Connect device, not when playing the song locally on the phone. It started with the latest update, and I have never seen this issue before.
