Tracks skipping a second after phone turns on or off

This happens every single time. The act of pressing the power button, or even the screen turning on from a notification causes the track on spotify to skip ahead a second or two. I tried reinstalling entirely, tried on different networks, different playlists, etc.

Some info to help: 

Device: ZTE Maven 3

OS: Android 7.1.1

Spotify version: 8.4.50.634 arm V7 

To clarify, I have used the most updated version, but have recently installed an older version to see if it helped. Neither worked.
