My Question or Issue
When switching between WiFi and data, Spotify will stop playing the song I'm listening to without crashing or freezing. Pausing then playing does nothing and skipping to the next song does nothing as that song will also not play. If I skip about 5 songs it will start playing songs again but the previous songs I skipped will not. Everything else works fine and I can switch to a new playlist without any issues. This also happened on my previous phone. Downloaded playlists aren't affected by this. If there's anything anybody can think of causing this please let me know.
Hey there @MrKidd,
Thanks for posting about this here in the Community!
Since you mention that this doesn't happen for songs that are available for offline use, it sounds like a connection issue.
However, we'd recommend performing a clean reinstallation of the app with the steps in this Spotify Answer to double check that it's not a cache issue on that device.
Further, you can make sure that Spotify is set as an excepetion for any cache clearing or battery optimization apps.
Let us know how you get on! We'll be right here if you need more help.
Have a lovely day 🙂
Sorry I took a bit to reply. Thought I'd do some experimenting to get more info instead of just saying it didn't work.
So I clean installed Spotify and turned off all security and battery settings on my phone. It didn't fix anything. Some more info I found out, once my phone disconnects from a WiFi network, Spotify will continue playing any songs it preloaded on WiFi and not use my data to continue loading songs. So if Spotify only loaded half of a song while on WiFi it will stop playing the song half way through. So that means I can skip back to previous songs already loaded and it will play those songs.
There are two ways songs will start playing again. One is force stopping the Spotify app then Spotify will load music through my data as it should. Closing it does nothing only force stopping it works. The other way is if I wait. The time varies but it usually takes about 10 minutes, then Spotify will start playing music randomly again.
Also wanted to add that Spotify doesn't seem to have any issues switching from data to WiFi. I could've sworn that it did but after testing it it works fine.
Got any other ideas? It happened on my older phone too so I'm thinking it's the app but idk. All other apps switch between data and WiFi without any issues.
Hey again @MrKidd,
Thanks for keeping us in the loop!
It sounds like the issue occurs only when switching from WiFi to a data connection. In this case, we'd recommend double checking the following:
It'd be also a good idea double checking the app's streaming music quality - you can adjust the settings to see if that makes any difference. There are some additional info on the options here.
Further, you mention that this also occurs on a different device. If none of the above help, we'd recommend using a different account to see if the issue persists.
Keep us posted 🙂
Just to make sure, by different account you mean I should borrow a friends account or make a new free account to see if it still happens?
Found out if I turn off WiFi then start Spotify connected to only data it will then switch between WiFi and data no problem. Guess I just gotta live with it.
