My Question or Issue

when I try to play a song from the search page on spotify, it gives me a notification "do you want to play the video?" And gives me two options, continue on this device or not now. As I'm listening on a speaker, I chose not now, but not now just dismisses the notification and doesn't actually play the song, on repressing, the notification is back. I have to add to queue every time and that is very annoying. Please rectify.

Hey folks,

We're happy to announce that this should now be fixed for everyone running version 9.1.0 and higher! If you haven't already, make sure to install the latest updates by following this guide.

Should the issue persist, try logging out and signing back in to your account a couple of times in a row. It's also worth performing a clean reinstall of the app to get rid of any potentially corrupted cache.

Cheers 🤘

Hey there @mridin

Thanks for getting in touch about this here in the Community.

Just to confirm, does this only happen when you're streaming from your Android phone or from other devices as well? Also, does this only occur with the speakers you mentioned or with other external devices too? We'd also like to know if this started happening after a specific event such as an update.

On another note, sending us a short screen recording of this behavior would come in handy. You can attach it to your next response by using the Insert Video option in the post editor. You can also upload it to Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to see it).

We'll be waiting for your reply.

Hello,

I have the exact same issue. Seems it has surfaced within the newest updates.

I stream through my Denon amplifier with spotify connect and have not had issues in the past.

I'm able to play songs from playlists and queue up songs, but when I use search and click to play songs it asks if I want to watch a video. Not now-button does nothing.

Here is a recording:

*Edit* same thing happens regardless if the song searched has video or not. Still asks if I want to play video and cant play on the device if I dont queue the song.

Hey @Comppi

Thanks for jumping in and sending us this info!

Just to confirm, does this only happen when you're streaming on your phone through your Denon amplifier or can you replicate it from other devices that you use your amplifier with (such as a PC)? If it only happens on your phone, we suggest that you perform a clean reinstall of the app to get rid of any cached files that might be causing trouble.

On another note, would you mind checking if the same happens with other external devices that you use the Connect feature with? Also, could you check if the same happens while using a different internet connection?

Lastly, sending us the exact Spotify version of your phone would come in handy.

We'll be waiting for your reply.

I use Spotify to play music through my echo dot at home. Recently, when using my phone to select a song to play from the search page, it has started giving a popup saying "Want to watch this video?" with the only options being "Play on this device" or "Not now". The former changes the output to my phone, the latter just gets rid of the popup without changing the song.

I can select "Play on this device" start the playback on my phone and then switch it back. I can tell Alexa to play whatever song I want and it works just fine. If I choose the album a song is in, and then select the song it will play. The popup only seems to show when choosing a song through the search page. It also does not play a video at any point, so really not sure why the popup is even happening.

I have turned Canvas off, but no change. I can't find anyone else that seems to have my specific issue. And couldn't locate any other settings that seemed like they would be related.

My Question or Issue

How do I stop the popup and just have it play the song only on the echo dot.

My Question or Issue

When connected to bluetooth speaker and i try to change to a song from the search, it always asks "want to watch the video".

There are only 2 options which is either "play on this device" which changes the song but stops the song on the speaker and plays on my phone which is very annoying because i need to constantly change the device to my speaker again. Or "not now" which just ignores the song change request entirely.

I have turned off canvas to try and stop this but it persists. I don't think this is an intended feature? Because i just want to change my song to something i searched and not in my playlist.

Thanks for the reports, everyone!

We've forwarded the details to our tech folks who'll look into this. In the meantime, please share the exact version of Spotify you're running as requested above by @Eni.

We'll let you know as soon as we have any updates on the matter, stay tuned!

Cheers 🤘

My Question or Issue

The problem that I have is this: I mostly play music through Spotify Connect because the Sonos app still misses the feature to go directly to the album. In general, this has been more stable and satisfying.

What happens now is quite annoying though. When I choose certain songs, I get the question whether I want to watch the video.

If I tap "play on this device", the app disconnects from the sonos speaker and the song and video play on my phone. I then have it manually reconnect the speaker to the Spotify app.

If I tap "not now", nothing happens and the song will not be played. Why is there no option to just play the song?

I don't want this. Is there any fix?

Same problem here. Spotify support couldn't help me. I have Teufel Radio 3sixty and this problem appears recently when I am connected via Spotify connect. On the same smartphone of my wife, but another Spotify version (9.0.94.274), it's perfectly working. My strong guess is that there is a bug in new version.

This problem seems to appear since version 9.0.96.826 that I have been installed. I did a complete new installation of Spotify app but without success. I own a Samsung galaxy s23 but even on my older oneplus 7t this problem exists. Hopefully this can be fixed asap.

Same version for me, galaxy s21plus 5g to Google nest wifi extender

Does not come up when playing on-device

Also comes up when I try to play on an older Google smart speaker

Same here playing on Sonos with an Redmi Note 11.

having the same exact issue here, it's really irritating.

Spotify Version 9.0.96.826 on Android

This is really really an annoying issue. I'm trying to play on Sonos with google pixel 9 pro. I wanna listen only music, I do not need the videos on a music streaming platform!

For some songs there is a video available (see the "play" icon). So you can switch between audio and video while listening to music. When you search a certain song in the search bar, it makes no difference if there is this "play" icon or not. On older song for instance there is no video available but if you wanna play this song from search results, this pop up comes up, too.

I literally have the same issue, i know this thread doesnt have any solutions, but Happy to see someone having the problem as well.

Pixel 9 pro xl Android 16 btw,
