Unable to switch songs on Apple products ( apple watch & apple car play) since last update

Since the beginning of the week I have been unable to control my Spotify music via my apple watch (like switch to next song).   Today I noticed the same issue is happening with my Apple Car Play (even unable to use steering wheel controls to change song).  

Really frustrated since those are the 2 cases you don't want to be staring at your phone.

I am a premium member so the music was downloaded to my device so I know its not a connection issue.
