Thanks for the title improvement suggestion, that will probably help some people find it, you're right. 🙂
Yep, Air and Portishead are missing for a reason: They have never made any tracks that became personal favorites of mine. This list basically contains every downtempo track from the last 20 years that I really loved, and I won't include any tracks just because of the "big name" of the artist.
I'm well aware that there are many, many downtempo and lounge playlists on Spotify, as you would expect. Just look at the tons and tons of Lounge samplers around, most of them mediocre at best, many of them intolerably dull. It would come as a surprise to me if Spotify only had a few playlists of a similar kind.
I'm actually hoping that my list gets its special appeal by the sheer quality of the tracks I've chosen and by the fact that it contains quite a lot of hidden gems (great tracks with less than 5k plays on Spotify).
Always happy to take suggestions. That track doesn't quite make the cut, it doesn't have that special vibe I'm looking for.
But I'm totally loving that soul playlist!
Being from Germany, I'm not very familiar with Soul and Funk from the States, but I've really started digging that kind of stuff lately (thanks to Greg Proops' podcast, I should mention). So lists like yours contain many wonderful things for me. Thanks a lot, awesome work!
@cuewizchris totally understand what you mean, all my playlist have to include tracks that have that vibe I'm looking for, it's generally a Soulful groove, but open to all sorts. Glad you enjoyed my playlist, the 100 tracks full year change every Friday, but the playlist will always be a mix of Soul, Funk, Disco, Jazz, House, Rap and anything else that has that sound.
