Hey! Welcome to the community 🙂

You can do it from the Spotify preferences menu:

Edit/Spotify > Preferences > (Scroll Down) > Open Spotify Automatically after you log into the computer > Don't open automatically.

Except...it doesn't stick.  Even if you go in to msconfig and stop it, it automatically reappears.  Has Spotify done anything to address this ongoing annoyance?

What version of Spotify are you using (Help > About)?

I have seen this as an issue before here on the community but not recently.

Strange, might be a stupid question but have you tried a clean reinstallation

Yes, last week.  Will try it again today, and reply if it fails once more to do as it's told!  If it doesn't take care of it though, I will switch to the uninstall, and only install it when I want to use it, method.

Bwa ha ha ha!!!   Reinstalled from the Spotify.com page, changed setting to "Do Not Launch on Startup."  First reboot -- Spotify starts.  And, it posts a little message on the top left of the page  -- Do you want Spotify to launch on startup -- yes...no.  Worth a try, but...next reboot, howdy auto-launched Spotify!
