I have a friend who wants to use Spotify but does not have a Facebook account, and does not want to get one. Is it possible to get a Spotify account anymore without linking it to the facbook account? I know I first signed up that way.
Solved! Go to Solution.
This is an old thread! You no longer need Facebook to sign up for Spotify. If you used a Facebook account to sign up, you will have to make a new account on the sign up page.
Original old reply below, no longer true:
No, you can't sign up for Spotify without Facebook. The Facebook account must also be kept active at all times because it will be used to log in.
Wow. This is really STUPID. Is this why Spotify is removing the old forum? There is so much negative feedback there regarding linking of Facebook and Spotify not to mention the issues with paid members having issues with not found or unplayable music....
Oh, this is crazy. I have to explain to my son now that he will not be able to use Spotify after all. I have an old premium account without the need of FB, I'm right now thinking of cancelling it. If I'm forced to use FB then I will definitely leave Spotify.

Yes, I'm in a similar situation, I don't want to use Facebook. I have bought a redeem card for my son and he does not have a Facebook account and I don't want to create one. I have a Spotify account, but from before the FB link. If the only way to log in to Spotify is to use an FB account it is really stupid. I'm paying for a service and expect to have an agreement with that service only. Fine if you provide the FB link as an option, but it should not be mandatory. I tried to click the solved link above but I was only directed to the same page.
The solved link just links to my post, which answers the original poster's question: No, you can't get Spotify without Facebook.
The reason for this is that Sean Parker has stock in both Spotify and Facebook, and he is intending to make Facebook the next media center.

If there are annoyed users that haven't given a kudos point on this, you should:

That's in the ideas section but it's kind of buried right now.
The Facebook integration is separate from the choice to move to a new forum.
The choice to move to a new forum was to allow folks to use a forum optimized for mobile devices, sign in with Spotify details, and use an advanced search feature.
Clearly I'm not the only user extremely dissatisfied with the log in from Facebook bugaboo. I pay to stream, not to be all up in everybody's Facebook business, nor their music all up in mine. Please make that feature go away! You'll make more friends (and money) by not trying to monetize an otherwise GREAT service. Snälla!
And yes, help me disconnect any Facebook connection from my account. I hope that makes my log in the way logging in should be, simple, and straight to my music. Tack!

Thank you tote,
I totally agree. This "issue" (it really is one!) has been addressed for months...
WHY CAN'T USERS WITHOUT FACEBOOK PROFILE STILL NOT CREATE A SPOTIFY ACCOUNT?
Absolutely hideous!!!
I have a Spotify account, because I was with Spotify before this "BS" with fb has started. But this is not about me, but about friends who'd like to join Spotify WITHOUT HAVING TO CREATE A FACEBOOK ACCOUNT! ... LAME!
I have the old no fb needed acc, and because my account is premium I let other people use it when I'm not on/away. Now my sister has connected to my account to facebook, I'm being registered as my sister in spotify emails sent to me. So this is also a security risk, it leads to easily controlled and hacked accounts. I've changed my password but I can't remove my sister's facebook from my account without having my own account (removed ALSO due to security risks). How is the affiliation of facebook useful and safe for spotify?
Dilillili - The two accounts should be disconnected now.
For future reference, you should be able to disconnect the Facebook account in the Preferences menu (Edit > Preferences for a Windows machine, Spotify > Preferences for a Mac). Scroll down the Social Networking tab and click on "Disconnect from Facebook".
Ok, so I am seeing immense dissatisfaction that premium users paying a lot of money for such a service have effectively been forced to submit their lives to FB and suffer henious advertising and general prying. Anyone got a solution to this? Mine is to finish with Spotify.......haven't seen another option.
I'm in a slightly different situation. I registered with Facebook, quite liked Spotify, subscribed £4.99 or whatever to lose the adverts - fair enough - but my family now use Spotify a lot, and I wanted to revert to a Spotify-only login so that anyone in my family can use login without me around. But I think that because spotify is "social" that won't work. Quick web browse. Is there a non-social music streaming service for £5 a month. There is. Goodbye!
Hi Mor,
As your account was created through Facebook, we can't disconnect your Facebook and Spotify.
However, you can now create an account independent to Facebook if you'd like. We'd then be able to transfer your playlists and subscription over to this new account, if you wanted us to. You'd just need to contact us here.
I've starting doing everything on my mail account now instead - thinking of getting rid of facebook anyway - this worked for me disconnecting it - happy out 🙂
I have unsubbed from spotify, somehow my account got linked to **bleep**ing facebook. -1 customer, good job guys.
