When I open Spotify, it just shows the timer going round continuously...what's going on?

It sounds like you are having an issue that several others are having as well.  A potential fix for this is available in an update that will be released soon.  If you'd like to try it out, you can find a link and more information about it in this thread.  Hopefully that will work for you!

Thanks, I have this problem and the preview version of the desktop client you've linked has fixed it.
