can't share to spotify-user anymore??!!!

Hi,

I don't have facebook, twitter or tumblr - but I used to send a lot of music through the share-function. All of a sudden with this update I can only send to my spotify-friends that have facebook, twitter or tumblr it seems? one of my friends, who like me has no social network connected to the profile, the share-function just won't find anymore!Am I doing something wrong?

Hi dguk - Which app version are you having trouble with? Are you unable to 'Follow' your sister or just send her music?

If you could confirm the device, OS and app version it'd be a big help--thanks!

Thanks Meredith.

It's the android and iphone apps that are most troublesome.

I have been able to search on the desktop app for 'spotify:user:username' and both follow her and send music that way (although that is cumbersome). However, when I then go to the follow tab she does not appear. I am unable to look her up in the find friends search box even though I know her spotify name. Didn't there use to be a separate friends tab on the desktop app anyway??

Both the android app (which i'm using) and the iphone app (which she's using) show nothing under the 'friends' tab either. I used to be able to see people here that I was linked with. When I click share on any song or album and use 'spotify friends' there is no-one listed anymore, and despite knowing the spotify name it will not allow me to send to it.

It's as if the spotify friends links have just disappeared. However, I can still see messages in my inbox from people I have previously linked with.

Is it because spotify are making updates with the facebook integration?

One thing I would definitely like to do before anymore problems come up is save the message history of songs I've been previously sent!! (song details and the message they were sent with). Is there a way to so that?

Thanks for your help.

Hi dguk - Thanks for this update--our team is gathering more info on this at the moment.

If we have any updates or need more user info we'll get in touch right here. Thanks for your patience while we look into this one!

I'm having the same issue. I can't share music from my Ipad or my Android phone using the spotiy friend function.

Any updates on this Meredith?

Also, when I try to share by emailing a playlist link, the recipient cannot open the playlist. He has the Spotify app on his phone, but is not a premium member...shoukdn't he still be able to open the list and play tunes from it?

Spotify usage on a mobile devices requires a premium subscription (US users get free radio only), so unless your friend has premium they won't be able to listen to any playlists on their mobile device.

Our team is still on the case. Rest assured this is very much still on our radar and we're investigating.

Keep your eyes here for more info--thanks!

This is exactly the troubles I had yesterday. I want to share playlists with a friend: we both have spotify-only usernames (we do not want/do not have facebook), we both use the android client. To summarise your email, this is what I found:

Desktop application: can follow user through spotify:user:username - can share playlists

Web application (play.spotify.com): can follow user through spotify:user:username - unable to share playlists *

Android client: cannot find users - unable to share playlists *

* Share -> "To" field -> Cannot find users that I marked as "following" by using the Desktop application.

Are you strategically planning to fix the above situation, or you are moving in the direction of facebook-only sharing?

Thank you,

Ari.

I'm not familiar with the android application, but you should definitely be able to share to non-Facebook people you follow from the web player (just tested it on myself).

I repeated the test from my work PC (Windows 7), and - you are right - it worked. I was either very tired yesterday night, or there was something else going on. I will re-try from home tonight and let you know.

But Android still does not recognise any username there, which is my actual pain.

Also, when the friend sent me a notification (from the desktop application) it was there in the Inbox of the Android app alright, but there was nothing in the UI to let me know that Inbox had a new item, Inbox did not change colour or something.

I seem to remember that non-facebook friends stopped being accessible on mobile platforms a while ago and this has been escalated to the staff. I suspect that not being able to share with non-facebook friends from the mobile platform is tied into this since spotify performs a check on the user details before the "send" button becomes available.

Oh, and I can confirm I get the same on my android 🙂

Has this been fixed yet?  I was only able to add a user a couple years ago and since then it will not accept any user name.

Which application are you using?

Heya Peter,

I am using Spotify on my iOS 6.x.x and I can not share playlists with my followers, regardless if they have linked Facebook Accounts or not. I am using a spotify Account (I don't use FB)

Do you have any idea if this will ever be fixed? It's kind of a core feature and a big disappointment, especially when you pay 10 EUR per month (:

Cheers,

wp

This is not working for me either still!! I am facebook friends, follow on spotify, and still cant send to people through the app. I have to be on my desktop to do it which makes absolutely no sense! Please fix this...i pay 10 bucks a month for this and had the feature before.

Has this been fixed? I cannot share music from the iOS app to a non-Facebook user whom I follow. I can do it fine on the Desktop app.

I have the same problem. Can't do it from browser and can't do it from Android app. It worked for me twice, then both my own and my friend's name disappeared from the share list, so I cannot select my friend to share anything with any more. It worked one minute and didn't the next. We are both following each other. I have Fb but she doesn't.

Hi, I have the exact same problem, not able to share with a friend on spotify but I have a tons of friends able to sare with.  The wird thing about this friend is that the name is using some characters from spanish like " í  " the letter contains accent.  He is the only one I cannot share mussic. Please fix it.  This problem is also prensent in the movile app.

Same problem here on desktop and android. Sharing only seems to work towards Facebook users – even though I am not one of those.

Update: sharing started to work on desktop after I added the recipient to my follow list. I would much prefer sharing without following.
