My Question or Issue

Hello,

Car Thing was working perfectly for me until this past week. It connects when I start my car like normal, then when the song changes or I skip the current song, Car Thing gets stuck showing the previous song and does not update, then it says disconnected from my phone and after about 5-10 seconds it reconnects and shows the currently playing song again.  It seems like anytime the song changes, it triggers Car Thing to disconnect from my phone, then shortly after it reconnects.

I have already tried:

- factory resetting Car Thing

- Clearing cache, memory, and reinstalling Spotify on my phone

- Reset Bluetooth connection with my phone and Car Thing

Hey @jko__take,

Thanks for posting on the Community 🙂

In this case, we'd like to gather as much information as possible. Did you notice if this started to happen after a specific event such as an OS update? If yes, please send us the details.

On another note, is this inconvenience present on another mobile device? It’d be awesome if you could check. You can ask for the mobile device of a relative or a friend to open your account, connect it to the Car thing and check.

We'll be on the lookout for your replies.

Take care!

I'm having a very similar problem.  Same phone, Pixel 6 Pro.

Android 12 updated may 5th.

I get the disconnected  issue about every 30 seconds, if I try to change the song it will lag or show the next song, but not actually change it.  If I try immediately after it reconnects, it is working as intended, for a few seconds. Then disconnected, loop repeating indefinitely.

I never lose connection to the vehicle via Bluetooth, and using Spotify via phone or car is working as intended at all times.

Hey @Derkwad,

Thanks for the reply and the details.

It seems this could be a connectivity issue.

Do you mind checking this page and giving the steps from the page a go?

On this page is also more general advice on using Spotify in the car.

Keep us posted,

Cheers!

Hi @Dian,

I tried all the steps in the link you provided. None of them fixed this issue.

I have already tried:

- factory resetting Car Thing

- Clearing cache, memory, and reinstalling Spotify on my phone

- Reset Bluetooth connection with my phone and Car Thing.

Please help fix this. This is has made Car Thing pretty much useless.

Hey there @jko_-take,

Thanks for the reply.

You can try to forget all Bluetooth devices and reconnect them, like so:

  • Phone: in phone's Bluetooth settings unpair or forget the connection with Car Thing/car stereo
  • Vehicle: in car's settings forget the pairing with the phone
  • Car Thing: in Car Thing settings forget the phone that was previously paired

To me this sounds like the Bluetooth connections is dropping somewhere and the devices are losing sync, trying to re-sync and crashing for some reason.

You might also want to go into your phone's settings and make sure that no Battery Saver/ Battery optimization is enabled, as this might be causing issues when the songs are changing in the background.

If none of that helps, let us know if the issue still occurs when the phone's screen is on and when you skip a song manually from the phone.

Keep us posted on how you get on.

I have the exact same issue with my fully updated Samsung s21 5G and a 2016 Nissan Rogue SV. I can't seem to find anything that will stop it including the battery optimization and erasing all of my Bluetooth connected devices and reconnecting them

Hey there @jtgibbsz32

Thanks for getting in touch about this.

Just to confirm, have you tried all the suggested steps in this thread?

On another note, we'd like to know if this issue started happening after a specific event such as an update.

Keep us posted.
