How to buy songs?

Flipp

Hey there,

this may sound like a real stupid question, but how do I buy songs? I have Spotify Premium and according to the FAQ it is possible to buy songs and get them as MP3. Now I just can't figure out how to Download them (and yes, I tried right clicking on them , but in the Pop-Up menu there is no such point.)

However, I am able to make songs available Offline (since I have Premium) , but I guess this is not the same as buying songs, because I want them as MP3.

Maybe anyone can clarify this for me?

Best Regards

Hey! Welcome to the community 🙂

The FAQs are in need of updating, it is no longer possible to purchase tracks through Spotify as mp3's as the downloads store has been recently removed from all countries (it was never available everywhere) whilst they focus on new streaming features and improving the service.

I would suggest you have a read at this FAQ about the downloads store as well as the main topic on this issue here.

At present, Spotify have not ruled out the return of the downloads store in the future, but there are no current plans to restore it.

Just so I'm clear on this; I can't buy songs from Spotify, but if I already own music (DRM free) in .mp3 format I can use the Spotify standalone application to listen to my locally stored music. If that's the case, then I'm free to purchase music from the lowest priced seller and listen to it on my Spotify application. Would that be correct?

Thats correct. I have just merged Spotify with my locally stored music but
arent sure how it works..

Wow how silly. Spotify could make money off the sale of each mp3 plus give the artist a royalty, making them happy & showing the world they are a responsible member of the music community.

Oh well, illegal hack converters here I come.

Hello, I just read this. I am premium user since 2015. Since then many songs just disappeared from my playlists. Many of them were my favorites. Are there any news about possible reopening of the download store? Today it took me hours to browse through Spotify and YouTube and other stores and I ended up buying something via iTunes. Best regards, Daniel

I would be interested in finding out if Spotify ever intends in the near future to make these songs available for purchase, even if there is a maximum limit. I typically would not need to download as an mp3 given that you can download the songs and play them from any device which is great for personal use. On the other hand, in my line of work there are times that I need to add videos to powerpoint that has no sounds and Spotify hands down is the best out there for filtering songs based on length which makes it easy to find a song that is perfect! However, now I am in a pickle because I found a song perfect for a video I need and I can't get the mp3.

Would Spotify consider opening up a separate account that business can use to purchase songs?

Spotify used to offer the option to buy tracks but stopped doing it about 5 years ago to concentrate on streaming. Unless you're DJing why do you need to buy the tracks as you can store them offline anyway? Leon.

The reason i'd buy tracks is to use them in my DAW for reference while mixing.

Because premium Spotify only lets u store 1gb and then u have to start deleting them to stay under the limit plus if u ever leave Spotify (which is likely wen something better comes along) u lose all u stored (it doesn't let u keep them.

Why you do not tell it clearly when you have chaged your practices?!? I used to purchace music from spotify and now I did not managed it. It took time to clarify it, waste of time. I am sure that it is said somewhere in a long and small text. But not for example Get Started and learn more pages. Why you do  not inform it clarly!

It is outlined on the support site:

I'm pretty sure I remember getting an email about it too at some point, but I can't be sure!

Hi!

As a producer / mixing engineer, i find spotify to be a great source to look for music to use as reference for mixing.

And i miss the "downloads store" wich was very convenient since i put the reference track in my DAW as an .mp3 file.

Using Asio drivers my DAW takes exclusive control of my audio card wich means i can not play spotify with my DAW running.

So maybe you see my little problem. And since you might not restore the feature i think it would be great if you could add links to where the tracks can be bought, so it takes you to that website where you can conveniently buy an 320kbps .mp3 file.

Hey @freedoomusic ! Welcome to the community 🙂

Unfortunately, I did request the downloads store be returned over on the ideas exchange here or at least Spotify provide a source for downloads but it has been marked as "Not Right Now" so unfortunately there are currently no active development plans to bring that feature back.

Regardless of the status, I would suggest you add your kudos and comments to that ideas topic!

But is it still possible to put them on your iPod? or also not? Because i purchased spotify Premium to put music on my iPod... Secondly i don't understand why, (i just upgraded to spotify premium) but when i want to download a song, he asks me if i'm sure i want to buy this song? But i thought that for the 9.99 i could download songs unlimited? Or do i have to pay for the music above the 9.99? where is the 9.99 for in that case?

Hey! Welcome to the community 🙂

Spotify premium gives you unlimited, high quality, advert free streaming from the massive Spotify online music catalogue as well as access to Spotify on your mobile devices using the Spotify app (supported platforms are Android, iPhone, iPod Touch, BlackBerry, Windows Phone 7, Symbian) and the ability to make playlists available offline inside the Spotify client/app for use when you do not have any internet connection.

Spotify premium does not give you access to downloading tracks as mp3's or use of tracks outside of the Spotify ecosystem. If your iPod is not a Touch, then you can not use your Spotify premium subscription for content on that device. You will need to find, purchase and download tracks from another source. You can however use the Spotify client to transfer any tracks that you own to your iPod, just like iTunes can.

Problem I see is that the quality of tracks varies a lot and is usually just regular, I would not call it high quality. I use Spotify Premium to search for new music or to listen at work where I hve a mid level audio system, but for home where I have my good stereo system Spotify falls really short. I wish there was a way to buy better versions of tracks from Spotify.

So.. with spotify premium i don't own the tracks? i still have to pay for it?

I'm sorry but i'm really not getting the idea.. the only 'extra' thing i can do with spotify premium is to listen to the music on a few devices, such as my iPhone? so only if you download the spotify app on the device.. otherwise you can't. But within these 9.99, i still don't own any song? i have to pay for that above it?

That is correct! Oh and you get high quality streaming (320 KB/s).

Spotify is a streaming platform after all.

Besides, did you really think you pay 10 euros and can download as many mp3s as you want while other (legal) platforms offer them for 1 euro + each song? 😛

Amarelsahli

yeah .. it's not the first time i hear i'm quite naive. So yup!! It's because on the website stood that i could use them at my iPod, by the way : 'deezer' makes it possible to put them on the iPod..
