This idea posted by neuromonkey ages ago is brilliant. Just because it does not gather loads of Kudos, does not mean the idea should be made inactive. If you read what he is saying it makes complete sense and Spoify should really think about doing it.
The main thing is that there should be some 320K tracks available for all subs to test/trial. We need to test if the better quality stream is worth paying for. If this was avaialble the amount of Premium subsribers would really go up. When you go for a test drive, there is a high chance that you will buy it. This is no different. I am sure it would really help people to decide to use Premium. From Spotify's perspective, I cannot believe they would turn away this revenue oppotunity?
The best idea would be to:
Allow free subcribers to stream a few set tracks at 320K at any time (in addition to the 30-day trial), maybe change the tracks each month to encourage people to trial the feature.
For Unlimited subscribers, allow them to stream any 10 tracks a month at 320K (plus any of the set tracks for free subs).
This will make a big difference and increase the paid subscriptions.
If Unlimited changes to allow streaming at 320K, the idea is still good for Free subs, so that they see if 320K makes a difference to their current listening setup. Everyone has several listening modes: PC, PC with headphones, laptop, listening in different rooms and volumes, at work with ear buds, tablet, phone, etc., etc. Allowing people to test these will get more subs switching to 320K.
The marketing guys will kill for this feature/sales promotion and it's probably easy to implement.
Just give me 1% of the increased sales!! I'll donate the first 50K to a music charity.
Go on, you know it makes sense. Click Kudos and make it happen!
Cheers, JimboDimbo. P.s. make it easy to stream these tracks at 320K, don't bury it deep into the configuration menu. A nice Premium icon or font colour, e.g.
