Add lyrics to songs without displayable lyrics on Spotify

Aim: to elevate the listening experience on Spotify by making displayable lyrics available on most songs through user contribution.

This will have two parts:

1) Spotify users will be able to add lyrics to songs without displayable lyrics viewable for themselves only (no approval by Spotify required as it's not available to the public). This will enable users to add personal edits and imperfections to the displayed lyrics.

2) Spotify users will submit a set of lyrics to songs without displayable lyrics for approval. These submissions will be checked by AI or Spotify employees. This way, soon, most of all of Spotify's music will have displayable lyrics for them.

Why? I, like most music listeners, enjoy jamming to tracks with lyrics displaying as the song progresses. It is a massive turnoff when my favourite artist's lyrics don't show, or my lyricing momentum is interrupted by a track without displayable lyrics. I want to enjoy my music to the fullest, and I believe this addition will help ensure that.

I really like this idea! It's smart to have user-only lyrics, it's frustrating enough when a song doesn't have lyrics, so having to wait for them to be vetted would add to that. Maybe the user-created lyrics can still be vetted with a Genius-like system but I think it should display what the user wrote only for the viewer, at least until it has gone through the process.

Thanks for bringing your feedback to the Idea Exchange!

We’re closing this idea since it doesn’t meet one of our Idea Exchange guidelines, namely point 7: “No pricing, subscription or content related requests”.

We work together with third parties (e.g. Musixmatch) for licensing reasons. Once the lyrics have been verified, artists or their representatives can add them to their database. After adding (editing/transcribing) those lyrics, they are then ready to be synced to Spotify. You can read all about it here.

If you notice an error when reading the lyrics of a song, you can report it directly to the provider. You can find the provider at the end of the lyrics screen on the app.

Feel free to submit your idea(s) again, making sure that it adheres to the above guidelines.
