[All Platforms] DLNA Support

I would be so great to have DLNA support in Spotify, both in the desktop and mobile versions.

There should be a simple "Play To" feature so music can be played on the living room stereo and controlled from a mobile device without the use of a combination of desktop computer, JamCast, 2Player, WD TV live box ect.

It could be combined with AirPlay support, but I'm using a Windows/Android setup myself.

Hope people (and Spotify) will support this feature soon - it would really take Spotify to the next level at home!

Thanks to everyone for their contribution to this thread. We really appreciate it. In the interest of full disclosure, we’d like to share with you the status of this request.

We don’t have any plans to implement DLNA support in Spotify. Instead, we’re going to develop and improve our current Spotify Connect feature, which allows you to play Spotify through your speakers, laptop, or TV using the Spotify app as a remote. For more information, check out Spotify Connect.

For this reason we’re going to mark this idea as ‘Case Closed’ We really appreciate your feedback on this.

It is the most important feature, but I think it's only a license question... i think apple pays for the integration of airplay so that spotify can be used with their proprietary software.

dlna is an open standard which every producer can integrate.

If spotify would integrate dlna than every hifi mdia player can receive spotify music streams and the license they made with onkyo  to integrate the spotify app would become needless. onkyo only integrates the spotify support in their medium- and high-end devices (above 400 euro).

I think these things are the problem to fullfill the wish of the community till the licenses with onkyo are expired.

+1 It would be really great to have DLNA support in Spotify!

I think you got it backwards - it's Spotify who has to pay Apple for an Airplay license, and Onkyo which has to pay Spotify for Spotify integration 🙂

Either way, if you bought hardware that locks you into any particular vendor, you only have yourself to blame. Unfortunately, that seems to be Spotify's and their partners' business model.

Casual Listener

seriously good idea. I currently use spotify coupled with airfoil to stream to hifi.

Yes, Spotify needs DLNA support.

The licensing/music copying is a BS excuse.

Firstly, I subscribe to Spotify (2 subs in fact, one each for me and the wife) , why would I need to copy the music?

Secondly, if I really wanted to copy the music, there are many alternative methods, most of them much easier.

I also own an Onkyo AV receiver with Spotify built-in but to be honest, it's a bit flaky and the interface is poor and difficult to navigate with the remote.  Being able to use the app on my phone/tablet and stream to the AV receiver is a far better solution.

I would also like to see DLNA compatibility in the Spotiy Android app

+1 I would appreciate DLNA or AirPlay Support as well!

+1 Spotify needs DLNA support, ASAP!!!

indeed.. Any news about this??

Indeed dlna would be a very cool feature, first and foremost on the mobile verions (iOS, android and WP) would love to be able to use my mobile or tablet as controler and beam it too my television hooked up to a hifi set.

would be a great incentive to go premium 😉
