[All Platforms] No Ads in Podcasts for Spotify Premium users

I pay for my subscription. Every month for years now. The main reason I am a paid-for subscriber with Spotify is so I don't have to hear ads. As I have shifted my podcast listening from other providers to Spotify to bypass ads, both from the platform as well as integrated into the content.

I expect not to hear ads on Spotify. I understand there are ads woven into the actual content of the podcast itself, but for as big of a company and the amount of leverage Spotify has, I expect to not hear ads so long as I am paying for the service.

I reached out to Spotify and got this lazy, generic answer from Joy in Spotify Customer Support: “if you're hearing ads on podcasts using this Premium account. It's possible that the podcaster integrated that ads to their podcast content”. Thanks for breaking your back on that response.

I KNOW what the ads I’m hearing are. And I understand they can’t ask podcasters to export two versions, one with integrated ads and one without. What I expect from Spotify is to either implement metadata that tags the beginning and ending of ad segments and bypass them for us, Premium subscribers, or require podcasters to give metadata timecodes that Spotify can identify to bypass them AUTOMATICALLY.

Just to be clear, even if these identifiers are put into the content, I don’t want to have to pull my phone out to hit any sort of “skip ads” button. This is literally the ONLY reason users have Premium. So get rid of the ads. It’s actually very simple. And let’s not get started on how archaic it is to continually hit the “15sec forward” button to bypass the ads, first over shooting, then undershooting the duration of the integrated ad, only to have to make peace with hearing the last ten seconds of the ad. At that point it’s not servicing either party in the transaction.

It’s 2020. You are a huge company with a lot of leverage and a huge developer budget. I honestly can’t believe I’m even having to write this suggestion.

tl:dr - Spotify, I am a Premium member. You made a promise to me that if I became a Premium member, I wouldn’t hear ads. I’m hearing ads on podcasts. Integrated or not, I don’t care. You have the technology and power to fix it. So fix it. And make it automatic. It’s 2020.

Hey folks,

The Ideas section provides users with the opportunity to share their opinion on what features and app improvements can be developed, to make Spotify better. This idea however, in it's core fundamentals, requires to change how the Premium subscription works and what opportunities Spotify offers to Podcast creators.

As part of the Premium subscription, all music can be enjoyed ad-free. And while Spotify doesn’t play ads that interrupt the music listening experience of Premium subscribers, some podcasts may include advertising, host-read endorsements, or sponsorship independently of the streaming platforms featuring such podcasts.

Providing a way to circumvent those is not something that our Idea submission process can accomplish.

This doesn't mean that your feedback isn't heard and that this request couldn't be fulfilled by some other means in the future. On the contrary, this is being monitored and we invite everyone to share their opinion in a constructive manner. We will then ensure to pass it on to the relevant teams.

Please do note, that we do understand the overall sentiment and if the thread stops being useful as a source to track constructive feedback, we will need to close it for further replies.

All the best!

Why are we paying some of the highest streaming prices to get ads on podcasts? It disrupts the listening experience so much, it makes me want to switch to another streaming platform or just scrap my Spotify subscription entirely.

I’m a premium user but I’m still getting ads during listening to podcasts. Please fix this

📝 Idea Description:

Hi Spotify Team and Community,

I'm a Spotify Premium subscriber, and I recently discovered that Spotify-inserted ads (not host-read ads) are being played during podcasts — even for Premium users.

These ads are clearly identified by the message:

"Your podcast will continue after this ad"
...along with a Spotify-controlled 29-second audio ad that interrupts the playback. These are not embedded by the podcast creator but dynamically inserted by Spotify itself.

This experience is:

  • Disruptive to the listening flow

  • Contradictory to the very definition of a "Premium ad-free experience"

  • Misleading for paying users who expect ad-free content across the platform

🧩 Clarification:

I understand that:

  • Some podcasters include their own host-read or embedded sponsor messages. That's fair.

  • However, the ads I'm referring to are clearly inserted and managed by Spotify, as confirmed by support.

🙋‍♂️ My Request:

I propose the following:

  • Spotify should not inject platform-controlled ads into podcast streams for Premium users

  • OR at least provide a toggle to disable Spotify-inserted ads during podcasts for those on Premium plans

This would:

  • Restore trust in the Premium offering

  • Improve user satisfaction

  • Align with Spotify's own branding: "Music and podcasts, without interruptions"

🧠 Why This Matters:

  • Many users (like me) pay for Premium precisely to avoid ads, whether they are in music or podcasts.

  • Podcasts are a big part of Spotify’s ecosystem now, and they should be treated fairly under the Premium plan.

  • If Spotify wants to promote monetization, it should clearly separate sponsored content from platform ads, and never force ads on paying users.

Please Support This!

If you're also a Premium user and believe Spotify should be ad-free across all content, including podcasts, please vote and share your thoughts in the comments.

Let’s make Spotify Premium truly ad-free.

Thanks!

Please consider removing injected ads from podcasts for premium users. I accept that removing embedded ads isn't feasible, I am instead referring to the ads that the Spotify platform itself injects at the beginning or end of podcasts. In some cases, I receive up to 5 in a row. I understand that creators have the option to enable these to receive additional compensation for their work, but please consider giving users an option that does not involve additional ads.

Spotify Team, Creators, & Listeners,

I’m writing to share feedback regarding the unsolicited ads that are inserted into podcasts, even for Premium subscribers. These ads are not only completely irrelevant to my interests but are often EXTREMELY LOUD AND JARRING —especially when they interrupt quiet, intense storytelling.

For example, I’ve consistently received ads for companies I intentionally avoid, such as Starbucks, despite never expressing interest in such brands. The volume disparity between the content and the ads is SO enormous that I have to physically remove my headphones to avoid the deafening ads, which obviously disrupts the entire listening experience.  I even yell on occasion as a natural shock reaction to the painful ear-piercing ads and my girlfriend even sees me physically jump because these ads are so excruciating.

Given that I pay for a Premium subscription, I expect an ad-free experience, particularly during podcasts. I understand that some podcast ads are host-read or sponsor-based, but the insertion of these completely unrelated, disruptive ads are definitely not from the creators and some creators even call out how they do not condone these ads and they do not stand behind the advertising companies ... doesn't this go against the value proposition of Premium?  All of these loud aggressive ads are being skipped or ignored—and in all cases, actively disliked—it’s difficult to understand how they benefit either Spotify or its users.  Many content creators have come out and stated that Spotify's interrupting ads don't pay them a cent so they're not benefiting creator or listener so guess what... Spotify is not only profiting from all of these ads but they are profiting from our monthly subscriptions that were supposed to eliminate these ads in the first place!

What is your plan spotify?  Are you just going to continue to profit from all of this and ignore our pain or are you going to do actually something about it and honor your promise of an ad-free listener experience that would benefit both the creator and listener. I hope someone actually reads this and takes it into consideration that only Spotify benefits from these ads and the creators get nothing.  Listeners, if there is no promotional code in the ad, the creator doesn't get ANY MONEY from it.

Thank you for your time.

W3irddoe

Please think about this:  If the ad doesn't have a promotional code, how does the podcaster even know if the ad led you to a purchase? Who benefits from the ad: Spotify.  Who is only negatively impacted: Creators and Listeners.

No more ads on podcasts! For how much Premium costs there should be no ads on everything. Not just music.

CaponeKlages

Paying for ad free music should include ad free for podcasts as well otherwise it's a waste of a subscription. Or do individualized volume levels so I can turn the volume for the ads to zero
