[All Platforms] Configure Autoplay setting when opening Spotify Links

On Mobile, clicking a Spotify link to a song opens the Spotify app, immediately plays the song and also sets the song/album to be pulled from next. It would be nice if this interaction with links could be configurable to just open the Song page to allow the user to either add to queue or playlist without interrupting their current session. This is the default behavior on Web/Desktop players.

I see a lot of people complaining about these autoplays features. Some of them want it, some of them don't.

When it is a web URL for a playlist, it autoplays. When it is a spotify URI it doesn't autoplay. Why?

The track URI autoplays, by the way.

I just want to be able to autoplay a playlist with a spotify URI. The way i'm doing that is using windows shortcuts.

Why i'm not just using the sidebar on the app? It is because i'm giving voice commands while playing a game, to execute a specific shortcut. But the app just opens the page without playing it.

I don't feel that this concern is just mine, because as I said, there are a lot of topics on this matter:

I just want to say that my idea is similar to those above, but i have a different suggestion.

Why not just enable an aditional parameter for "power users" who wants to change playlists without opening spotify app?

It would go like that:

spotify:user:1163507645:playlist:0QhMmZ8qXDT5UFcJfqetVU:autoplay:1
spotify:user:1163507645:playlist:0QhMmZ8qXDT5UFcJfqetVU:autoplay:0
spotify:user:1163507645:playlist:0QhMmZ8qXDT5UFcJfqetVU

The last one would do the default. Maybe not autoplaying

This way would solve all the ideas above. People who want keyboard shortcuts could do that using the shortcut features on windows. People who want to start spotify with a specific playlist autoplaying will just need to open the right shortcut.

I'm trying to do the exact same thing as specified in this article.

I recently started a similar suggestion about this, but since this has already been suggested I'll add my post here as a comment instead:

I am usually fully aware that I'm opting in to hear a song when I'm clicking a spotify link, so the intermediate step of having to click play again in my browser after clicking a link is quite annoying for me personally. (like the "are you sure you want to leave this site" warning on forums) It would be great if this could be disabled.

hello,

i built a desktop app which uses the spotify URI to open the spotify application and play a selected track. now with the latest update autoplay has gone and this brakes my app completely. i consider this as a basic function. instead of removing the functionaltiy completely you could have integrated at least an option to let the user decide if he wants autoplay or not.

i really like the above idea! for example your app could check if the word "autoplay" is in the URI and then use autoplay.

spotify:track:<ID> (-> no autoplay)

spotify:track:<ID>:autoplay (-> start track automatically and interrupt current running track)

or let the user start the application like (if already open autoplay the new song):

/Applications/Spotify.app/Contents/MacOS/Spotify --track <ID> --play

as i said spotify is, without the autoplay function in the native app, totally useless for me at the moment... please bring back this function as soon as possible...

Yes, please. It would make apps so much cleaner. Nobody is going to blame Spotify if they click a URI and it "hijacks their context". They'll blame whoever provided the link, put it in their script, directed them to the website, etc.

They won't make this because then web developers would always set autoplay=1 to bypass the defaut which has been set up to improve the user's experience.

This would be massively useful.

The idea is to have an autoplay key so when you create a shortcut in desktop it launches and play the playlist right away.
The feature may work on any system that uses links like so.
so the only thing you would have to do is to copy the playlist Spotify URI of such playlist.

--------------------------------------------------------
Examples of simple URI to make work autoplay feature

spotify:user:Username:playlist:PlaylistCode:autoplay:true
would play it just as you click on the link

spotify:user:Username:playlist:PlaylistCode:autoplay:false
would not play it, you would need to press the play button

,or if the autoplay feature was using decimals
spotify:user:Username:playlist:PlaylistCode:autoplay:1
this would be equal to true

spotify:user:Username:playlist:PlaylistCode:autoplay:0
this would be equal to false

--------------------------------------------------------

and then just paste it in a shortcut created in the desktop, save it and voila you run the shortcut and plays the playlist...

in the interface may be enabled autoplay feature or not
