The removal of the Android Widget is a substantial step back for the Spotify experience on Android devices. The lock screen and drop-down time out while paused, and the lock screen interface has a history of not appearing despite Spotify being active. Additionally, when using the cross-device control, neither of the "replacement" interfaces reliably function as desired. Take the hit on this one, acknowledge that not all angles were considered, and re-introduce the Android Widget. Sure, you can come out the other side just fine without it, but it significantly mars your consumer-focused reputation. Don't harm the Android experience because Apple has a back-*ssward deathgrip on its platform.
