I suggest Spotify optimizes the Desktop application for more functionality on lower-end laptops and desktops. What I suggest is having the option of selecting a more simplistic UI to save on memory, the ability to disable the video ads and have audio ads instead and add the option to lower the audio quality for improved performance on lower-end networks.
I never really saw an issue with Spotify, primarily because I mostly use it on my modern desktop. But, since I started using it on my old laptop, I noticed it took forever to load a song. The application itself used almost all of the memory on the computer, thus, slowing it down even more than it was. The recent addition of the video ads didn't help the situation either. The ad would stutter quite frequently and stops were constant to the point that Spotify just gave up on playing the advertisement and played the next song. I am not necessarily impacted by a song's buffer speed, primarily because I have a fast network, and the laptop has a USB Wi-Fi adapter, but I can see the issues with low-end computers with integrated Wi-Fi chips slowing down because they can't support the current network protocols.
Hello and thanks for the feedback!
