90% of my Spotify listening is done on a work computer that can't house my local music files. So while it was great to upload (or sync or whatever I did) with my iTunes to get those playlists and songs imported to my Spotify library, most of those songs are grayed out as unavailable when I listen at work.
I thought at one point that Spotify tried to match "my" songs with the same song in their library, but I could be mistaken. Point is, that doesn't happen now.
I've started manually going through all my playlists and searching for the grayed out songs, dragging that song to the playlist, and deleting the grayed out version, but this is TEDIOUS and TIME CONSUMING (and takes 1,000 more UI steps than it should).
My idea is that we should be able to search for and match that grayed out song directly from the page/screen we're on. For example, I right click a grayed out song and choose an option called "Search" or "Match" and it finds that active track if its available in Spotify's library and replaces the grayed out one.
You could even go one step farther and do a full-on, automated iTunes Match-type thing where it does this for all your grayed out songs at once (but I'm picky and snobby and probably wouldn't use it because I wouldn't trust that it'd get it right).
Long story short, I just want my owned music to be in my playlists along with the new stuff I've discovered in Spotify over the last few years, but there are THOUSANDS of grayed out songs in my playlists and I don't think I can manually search for and add them all. I'll likely end up switching to Apple Music if that's the case. I'd lose the new stuff I found and added in Spotify, but my old music is more important to me than the new stuff. 😕
