Make the library more functional

The Library is a really confusing and endless list of songs, especaly on the mobile apps. You can't just click around and just listen to music without knowing what you want to hear.

It would be awesome if there was a possibility to Split the Screen when you're in the library an show a list with Artists, Album and Genre. Like we all know it from iTunes, Winamp, WMP. So you could click on an artist an all titles, albums and genres that aren't realated to him disappear. Just like a predefined Filters for all the artists, genres and albums in your library.

So it would be much easier to search to search for music in your library without knowing exactly what you are searching for.

This is also why a search function can't replace such filters.

There should also be a possibility to edit which details are shown in the library. Things like "year of release", "track number on the album" or just "number on the playlist" are hardly missing.

2014-04-09 Hey guys, we’re going to mark this Ideas as “Case closed”.

That’s because this week we introduced “Your Music”. Now you can save, organize and browse your favorite music. All in one place, across all platforms.

As users will now be able to view all their favorite artists, albums, and songs “Your Music” rather than a “Library” this idea is now closed. For a glimpse of “Your Music” and our new design changes click here.

These changes have rolled out to iPhone, desktop and web users this week, and will soon be available across all platforms. Thanks for your feedback everyone.

Agree with OP, also want the " Sync by time added " feature back in the mobile option. ITS BEEN OUT FOR MONTHS WHY IS IT SO HARD TO FIX ?

I've also switched to All Access for the time being. From what I understand about the collection feature, which has still not been rolled out to me yet, there are still some important features which aren't included. For example, not being able to download individual albums to mobile without saving to a playlist first. Of course, there is also still no genre grouping. All Access not only has both of those features, but extremely customizable tagging.

I love Spotify, but as others have said, the difficulty of navigating the library is something that should have been fixed long ago. I'm not giving up on Spotify, so don't misunderstand. The problem is I want something that can be my go to music player both for music I own and the on demand stuff, and so far All Access seems to be the only service that has all the features I need for that.

I'm considering stop using Spotify due to this missing feature. Can't find a good way to organize my music collection. One bloody long list of PlayLists is not exactly ideal.

Casual Listener

This is the main feature that makes me keep looking at Rdio.

1.5 years later - this basic feature is still not available. Seriously, are you guys kidding? No wonder Rdio is gaining so much momentum. I'm currently on their trial, looks like I'll be making the switch.

Please add this feature! It would make possible to build instant playlists based on genre! Allow users to filter own's playlist by genre!

@Alex_K-Punk, does rdio support filtering by genre? Also on user's playlist?

soooo does spotify want me to leave? this is unbelievely simple and it is found in every other music player. get your act together

I think it would be great if this was not only applied to the Libary view, but also the Playlist and Starred views

So here we are one and a half years, and 13 pages of comments, later and still no progress. This is basic functionality included in most music players. Yes, Spotify has the most extensive library of music available, and, yes, Spotify has many great and innovative features but you still need to get the basic stuff right.

I find it deeply frustrating and limiting that I can't manage, organise and play my own collection of music alongside Spotify.

As others have noted perhaps it's time to look elsewhere.

Come on Spotify. Let's have some visibility as to when you're going to fix this problem.

Thank you.
