Spotify acquired the app "Soundwave" in 2016, which had allowed users to listen to the music of other users located near them. However the apps function (a true social listening interaction) was never implemented, perhaps for user personal security concerns. It seems strange that consenting users have no option to listen to other users music, considering "Soundwave" did exactly that before Spotify acquired them. Spotify argues that users have the ability to share with their friends, however that vastly limits social diffusion and new artist exposure. It would be really fun to experience music spatially in real time as you traveled throughout your local town or across the world.
