[Social] CURIOUS TO HEAR WHAT PERSON NEXT TO YOU LISTENING TO? Music Sharing

Hello,

Just imagine a situation:

You are sitting in the bus. And listening to your favourite music on headphones. When you notice a cute person who is sitting in the bus too, and really enjoying the music, while shaking head with the beat. So curious.. WHAT SHE/HE IS LISTENING TO?!
How to know that? You take your phone from your pocket and open spotify app. There you see everyperson in 50m radius who is using Spotify and shares their music. And you see that she is listening for A-HA - TAKE ON MEE!. You connect to her music and listen to this song also. And when the bus stops, you leave it and say to her/him: ARE YOU PLANNING TO GO TO A-HA CONCERT THIS SUMMER? I LOVE THIS SONG TOO.
And you live happily ever after ❤️
THE END (Or maybe just a beginning 🙂
___

So, the thing is : a possibility to look for surrounding spotify users and see what they are listening. A possibility to connect to their song. A possibility to turn ON or turn OFF music sharing (maybe you would like a private moment, and dont want to see everyone listening for your "shame songs" haha!

I personally really really often pass a person with headphones and am very very curious, what they are listening to that moment.

Hey everyone,

It seems that this idea ended up in the wrong board accidentally, so we're bringing it back.

We're keeping the previous Not Right Now status, as we don't have any immediate plans to implement this. As soon as we have any new information to share, rest assured we'll check back in here.

Take care.

I'm okay with this, as long as it could be turned off. There are many users out there who would feel uncomfortable with someone else listening in on their music (myself included).

I think it's an interesting idea, as I'm a big fan of the feature the desktop platform has that allows you to see what your friends are listening to (it's how I find a lot of my music haha), however I think some people woud not want to have to always share what they're listening to to strangers. Maybe an option to turn this feature off?

Such a cool idea, but as others mentioned, it would be great to have the ability to turn this off

I came here to suggest literally the same idea. I thought of it while walking with my friend in town... both with headphones in and I wish we could tune in to what each other were listening to.

Probably this feature if added should automatically be OFF at all times unless switched ON by the user. A problem with this is that:

  1. this feature requires the user to be online
  2. have GPS on which requires Spotify to be linked to a satellite 24/7
  3. Spotify has to have a way to list the people listening to their songs and must be able to actively take the name off the list on-demand.

While some people won't have a problem with having their mobile data on at all times with GPS, it heats up the phone and increases battery usage. I don't think Spotify wants to have a misrepresentated image of heating up phones because even if it is the users that control this feature, it is the company's product and their design and they should foresee the possible user problems before establishing a feature.

If your phone is overheating because of the use of gps then you need to get rid of your iphone 5. You check the **bleep** weather and it uses GPS.

This would be awesome - got my vote!

This is actually fun, and creepy at the same time, I think.

Yes please!!

Spotify can just buy them and integrate the functionality

there is already an app that does it

Thats nice. But both people needs to have an app yes?
App is nice, but its extra app, extra download, extra space in phone. These days people less and less are willing to download lots of apps. Thats why i thought just a Function on Spotify (while there are lots of users already) is better than an app

please no! I do not like this idea at all.  My money says this would be an "opt-out" service that most people wouldn't even realize was on.

Approaching somebody and bein like "Hey girl/boy, I know you're listening to 'Thank You, Next'...How about me next, amirite?!?!" would, most certainly, not be chill.
