I think we could really use some more ability as to customizing profile pages.   Maybe the ability to showcase specific songs without compromising the ability to hide listening activity? If that was added, we could place specific songs that we like on our profiles, and still be able to keep our activity private.   Maybe the ability to set our own profile pictures, for those of us who didn't connect with Facebook? That would be a very important feature that is currently lacking.   Maybe the ability to set a biography? Feature links to social media accounts? Convert an account to an Artist Page? Set a custom color? Add a banner image? Post statuses? Have a Green/Online and Red/Offline mode so that you can tell who's online.   Here's a big one: being able to find user profiles without knowing the spotify:user:code ?   There are TONS of other things that could be added to improve the look and feel of personal profile pages. This is a very old problem to say the least and I am surprised this still hasn't been fixed. I know there have been suggestions dealing with this very issue in the past (for example here), but I was not happy with the solutions presented and how they were presented.   Let's start with the facts. Right now, when you search for "Muta" (as artist) you will be directed to ONE page with multiple releases. An EP ("Runner") by an electronic producer signed at King Deluxe Records, the "Bricolage" album by the ambient electronic group of the same name from Lebanon and the new "SPLASH" album by a Japanese Hip Hop producer.   Granted, these are niche artists and this is a problem that will rarely occur with other, more frequently looked for musicians. Still this is a problem, a longlasting one and one which others have solved long before. Let's take a look:     Discogs. They have a larger database, thus a screenshot doesn't do their solution justice, but artists with the same name are simply numbered through, in what I assume is the order of "public acknowledgement". Their catalogue is mainly user-generated and user-curated, which is something Spotify apparently wants to become as well. One of their solutions to this issue was to simply write an error report and Spotify would take care of it, splitting the artist pages in their "free time". Now, while this works perfectly fine with Discogs (mainly because the users correct the error themselves), this is 1) inconvenient and 2) unreliable in the case of Spotify. Let's look at a second example:     Allmusic. The search results are further filtered by the rough musical genre the artist was known for. the span of the musician's active years is displayed as well. Allmusic is a subsidiary of Rovi, which provides them with the relevant metadata. As far as I know Rovi also partnered with Spotify, at least artist biographies are supplied by that same company.   No doubt, there is no ultimate solution and Allmusic still offers users to report errors through a special form.Let's dive into suggestions anyway, because just accepting the current state helps nobody.   1) Realize this.   2) Metadata. You say you will manually fix the problem in your free time. I ask: do you add genre, label and release date information manually as well? I doubt it. You're sitting on a mountain of data and you fail to use it. In other areas as well, may I add, but this is a different topic. There are plenty of ways to distinguish artists in the search results using the data you have. Here are two examples how the search results could look, using the knowledge we gained from Allmusic. In these cases, luckily the artist pages were already separated (this saved me a bit of mock-up work).       You see, there is no layout change needed, it's just using the resources Spotify already has. I think it would have been realy great if there could been aded a new genre into spotify, the genre is trap think there is many other that finds it hard to find trap music on spotify since you need to know about an artist to find the music, and would been nice for everyone even for the peaople who havent heard trap befor then they can go in on the genre and listen. ... The new interface for DISCOVER new music is trash.. why do i want to hear similar music to what i currently listen to. The whole point of DISCOVER is to hear RANDOM NEW MUSIC not SIMILAR to my current artist... I think it would be great if the Spotify studio sessions for bands get their own menu locatred in the browse section.   So you would have Overview / TopLists / Genres... / New Releases / Discover / & Spotify Sessions   You can currently search for these but it would great if they were in a consolidated area to look through, i really enjoy listening to them as often the bands talk about their tracks or perform slight variantions on their songs.   ... When browsing the pages of legendary classical composers such as Bach or Mozart, there are hundreds of albums of their compositions available. Even if the ability to reverse the chronological listing of albums were implemented, it wouldn't solve the issue of all of the albums in the middle of the listing taking many minutes to scroll down to (it can take a minute or so per individual year, and I can't imagine how it would be if someone's internet were slow). If we could browse the works by decade, this would not be an issue.   In addition, for non-classical works, decades often instill a lot of common characteristics into the music released during the period. ... I feel like a lot of improvements can be made when it comes to determining "Related Artists," especially in regard to unknown artists. To me, the fact that you need to be in similar shared playlists as other artists sounds like applying for a job that requires x amount of experience (How can I get the experience, if I can't get a job?). That algorithim would work better for artists that already have a fanbase, and ignores undiscovered artists (leaving us no choice but to turn to other apps/websites to promote ourselves).   My suggestion is that the algorithim should be modified to include the artist's genre and geographic location to determine "Related Artists" in order to bring together a community of undiscovered artists who both share the same style of music, and can physically meet (tour together, build a working relationship).   It might sound like a difficult task at first (retroactively putting genre and location markers on the many Spotify Artists), but I suggest that an easier method of making this possible would be to provide artists *who have linked their personal account with their artist account* with the freedom to provide that information themselves [Top 5 genres they listen to / Three genres they think best represent them / City]. All artists who provide this information could be separated into their own pool of artists, so that every "Related Artist" is... Accurate Geographically similar (All Chicago-based rappers, NYC, Irish Rock Groups, Etc.) Undiscovered talent Able to utilize all of the "social" aspects of Spotify, By connecting unknown artists from similar areas and genres together, you would be making Spotify a one-stop-shop for discoving, connecting, and promoting new talent across the world.    If the idea takes off, independent and major record labels could categorize their artists similarly. But opening the idea to Artists first (with accounts linked to their personal Spotify accounts) would connect millions of subscribers, turning the massive numbers of artists on Spotify into a tight knit community, which would promote growth of artists and Spotify subscribers.   I sincerely hope that somebody (with the power to make this happen) reads this and agrees that it would be a good idea.   Thank you for considering (or just reading) my idea! ... Essentially, the idea was to have a way to show, when looking at an artist's page, what songs by that artist other friends have saved or have in a playlist. Maybe something as simple as a symbol that shows up and you can hover your cursor over it to see who has saved that song from your friend's list. ... View more
