1) Independent artist cannot submit their songs directly to Spotify. I understand the chaos that would happen if anyone can randomly uploud anything. However, this way:
2) We're forever stuck with distribution services. They dictate the terms since there is no other way we can acces to Spotify or other services. Some charges up to 30 dollar for an album, and if we don't make yearly re-payments, they take down our music.
3)So I suggest that after a certain duration and base-auidence or any other criteria, we should be able to publish our music freely. Also, the criteria must not be being 'Thom Yorke' big. It must include small artist too. My suggestion benefits both parties:
A)Since musicians make money on plays, it's a constant income and even if we die or unable to make payments, Spotify could keep our music up and take the royalties.
B)Most distribution services work with hundreds of services and they have to optimize the recordings accordingly. Also, they don't do that equalIy. I, myself, see a bias towards Apple services, for example. So, if I can uploud our own music, it will be more personalized for Spotify. It will also make it easier to add and use new features in future.
C)Loyalty. Now Spotify is a leading actor in the industry but in case of a strong competitors in future, I'd rather use a service that I can directly acces to. So, Independent artists must not be forced to sign with 'non-record labels' that just submit their stuff to Spotify and makes money off it. With some objective criterias set, we must be able to contribute directly.
Sincerely,
