It baffles me that this option was taken away, but with the latest build of Spotify, which replaced the old inbox with the very unneeded message threads, there is no way to delete messages. I was told to submit this as an idea, but I'm shocked I even have to. Next thing, I'll be submitting an idea to allow me to shut Spotify down after I'm done using it.   EDIT: I'd also like to add, as some of you have, that it's somewhat disturbing to find very old messages that I "deleted" two years ago now appearing in my Messages box again. Which means Spotify held on to those private messages, even though I hit that Delete button. Not good.   EDIT #2: Hi, everyone. It's been A YEAR AND A HALF since I posted this, and as you can see, even after 19 pages of comments and almost 700 kudos, Spotify hasn't done anything about it besides call it a "good idea". Thanks, Spotify. Because of this issue, and because of Spotify's reluctance to listen to the community on an issue which I feel is way more important than the color of the background, I have barely touched Spotify in the past 6-7 months. There are other alternatives these days. While they may not be perfect, at least they seem to respect my privacy more than Spotify, which is extremely important to me. Keep the comments and kudos coming, friends. I appreciate all of you backing me on this. Hopefully, Spotify will fix this issue at some point in the next decade. Checked back three years after initially posting this to find that the folks at Spotify deemed this invasion of privacy unimportant, and gave it a "Not Right Now", even after 1,268 votes and 33 pages of comments.Much more important that they change the font of that one band's name. Spotify Peeps, being able to delete your private messages shouldn't be an "idea" or even a "suggestion". It should be common sense. But whatever. I've been very happy over at Apple Music. "set the same volume level for all songs" in spotify, does not take into account the subtle volume transients of an album that audio engineers have spent hours working on! Solution - Add an option in settings for "Set The Same Volume Level Based On Albums". This will retain the intended volume differences between songs on an album (similar to the way replaygain album mode functions).   "Set The Same Volume Level Based On Albums"(replaygain album mode) DESIGNED TO RETAIN THE SUBTLE VOLUME DIFFERENCES BETWEEN TRACKS ON AN ALBUM) This solution is extremely quick for spotify developers to implement - Just take the individual track volume values in an album and you already have this information due to your "set the same volume level for all tracks", then get the average of these track volumes for that album and the result is your per album volume reduction value! Albums will finally sound like albums again. IN THE FUTURE - When you select "set the same volume for all albums" then it should also read the metadata in your personal music files (when the tag is present). The Name of this tag in my mp3 and flac collection is "REPLAYGAIN_ALBUM_GAIN".   "Set The Same Volume Level For All Tracks" - (replaygain track mode) BEST FOR SHUFFLE MODE, OR LISTENING TO LOTS OF RANDOM SONGS) Spotify already has "Set the same volume level for all tracks" in settings for songs that are streamed, which is the equivalent to replaygain track mode. This currently only works for streamed songs and it doesn't check to see if the tag "REPLAYGAIN_TRACK_GAIN" is present in your local audio file that you're currently listening to, a very simple fix indeed.    DISABLED MODE = NOTHING TICKED. When unticking "set the same volume for all albums" and "set the same volume for all tracks", all streamed and local music should not play with any volume adjustment on either streamed or library tracks, it is exactly the same effect as disabling "set the same volume for all tracks" that we currently have. There are many reasons for needing to turn of volume normalization (such as troubleshooting volume problems etc). Replaygain volume adjustments should be fully lossless when your dac is 24 bit. Note to spotify - By using metadata, this should be totally seamless - E.g. If the exact same album is streamed, then local files should play at precisely the same volume as streamed files.   IF EITHER TAG IS MISSING FROM METADATA - "REPLAYGAIN_TRACK_GAIN" or "REPLAYGAIN_ALBUM_GAIN" then spotify should not make any volume adjustment and it should produce the same result as having album mode or track mode not TICKED. Hi!   On the old spotify forum there where many highly debated posts about flac and lossless audio in general. This debate has 2 sides: Lossless streaming - this is the way into the future, but I estimate that it will take some time. Playback of your own flac that is on you computer. This is the point I'm suggesting, asking for today. Playback of your own flac is a must for me, and everyone else that has a sound system, either speakers or headphones, that playback the sound at high end quality. Flac has become the industry standard for the High End Music market, and is miles ahead of nr 2, the apple lossless format.   I'm always looking for a the best playback program on PC's and Mac's. So far I havent found one that is worth recommending to others, so I use spotify for streaming, and foobar2000 for flac. The kicker is that Spotify has become a Very GOOD playback program, all though only for MP3 standard formats.   If Spotify where able to playback my own flac, it would become my number one and only playback program, and I'm sure that there is many others that feal the sameway.   You might say that there isn't any market in lossless, but I quaranty you that if lossless format playback, ia flac, was a part of the premium package, the number premium vs unlimited and freewold increase alot.   Spotify is already on its way to becoming the nr 1 playback program in the world for low quality formats, and it would be nice if the high end music lovers like my self could use it for our music and high end systems with lossless format.   For the "you can't hear the difference between mp3 360 and flac" debate, I've listed a few points below...in random order. yes, it's true you can't hear the difference on a cheaps #"¤ low quality system. yes, on a high end system you CAN hear the difference on most songs. yes, it's true that there is a few songs that either is too "noisy" or is recorded too poorly where you can't here the difference the above facts is something that is commenly agreed upon in the high end world(either you belive that a digital cable gives better sound if it's goldplated or not) If YOU cant hear the difference on a high end system, then staticly..there is something wrong with you hearing. PS: A good high end system requier that the whole route in the system is high end..a good usb dac, quality cables(not insanely expensive though), a good preamp/amplifier(headphoneamp) and good speakers(headphones). the cost of a system like this Usaly start at these estimated prices. USB-dac around 1200€ Hegel HD20 is best value for money these days Cables around 5-700€ (complete for a stereo speaker system) should get you far F.ex Micromega PA 20 around 13-1400€ pre amp - has processer through for line AND subwoofer (Excellent to connect to your surround reciver, as it gives you subwoofer for you surround system, as well as for your hifi system). Skipping the amp and going for a set of active speakers would save you money Adam Audio Classic Mk3 Compact around 3400€ And a tight subwoofer would give you a floorstanding sound for alot less Euros. Adam Audio Classic Mk3 SW 260 around 1200€ There is cheaper systems out there, but this is a midrange High End system with outstanding sound. Spotify has taken away users' ability to easily edit information on any local files (right click local file - edit info), such as adding an artist, album, or editing the title (yes, this comes in useful).    I've added a screenshot of 2 local songs: the top one had information edited before the update, while the bottom one was just added and I can't add any missing information or change the bizarre title, thanks to Spotify's new update.   Not only is editing information useful for clarity, but it is also key for linking local tracks to Spotify's catalogue.    If this is affecting you or my unsightly song title bothers you, please give this post kudos! I would like to breath new life in an idea that was proposed in this forum a few years back: https://t.co/bcRo8UJ8d5. It is about offering fans the opportunity to donate to artists. I see it like this: we need to increase the notion of authorship again by introducing the ‘Karma Button’.    Music is very important in most people’s life’s. Fans feel a strong connection to musical artists. With streaming, the opportunity to express one’s support for the artist is lost. The monthly subscription fee goes to the Streaming Service, who seems disconnected from the artist they play and love. When buying a CD one had the subconscious expectation the money went to the artist. With streaming, the public is aware that the artist revenue on a single stream is very small.    In reality, revenues on streams are payed to the master owner, often the record label. Record labels even blocked the neighboring rights for online delivery. But fans experience a relationship with the artist, not with the label. The Karma button facilitates a payment of the fan directly to the artist, like flipping a dime in the hat of a street artist. It is a gift that should not be subject to contracts related to the music itself.   This is where the proposal of 2012 stalled. The response from Spotify was: “Spotify pays out straight back to rightsholders, the record labels and collecting societies who in turn pay money to the artists, musicians, lyricists and composers that they represent. So we do not pay straight to artists…labels do that. For this reason and since all our music is based in the agreements with labels we can't do anything about this…”. The real problem is that Spotify does not have a database of which artist has what rights on which music so they don’t know who to pay the money to.    Luckily that problem can be solved elegantly by cooperating with a neighboring rights organization such as the Dutch Sena (https://www.sena.nl/en/music-creators). Sena is a non-profit organization, working for a small administration fee, and has records of most relevant tracks, including the share ratios of the producers. Artists can also sign up at Sena themselves. If Sena is informed how much money was donated to which ISRC number, they can take care of the payment, charging only a small administration fee. This process can be automated. I had a meeting with the director of Sena and they are ready for this.    Now there is a threat. Record labels do not like distributing companies like Spotify to build a direct relationship with their artists. Spotify is strongly dependent on the record labels for their stream content so there is a risk that labels will take countermeasures. The solution is to make sure that there is just a one way connection from the fan to the artist of the donation, with Sena in between. This is in line with the Karma principle. In India a Karma action is a one way affair. One should not expect anything in return during the current lifetime. So in our case there is no need to offer a return path from the artists to express their gratitude for the donation. Spotify should explain this clearly to the record labels.    The Karma button should have a clear icon and be available on the main page of the interface where the track is viewed and started (for donating to the track artists) and on the artist page (for donating to just the main artist). It should be a ‘one click donate’ system so the threshold to pay is very low. A monthly limit per user could be set.    Keep the concept as simple as possible: the full amount minus x% administration cost will go to the artists. By doing this in full authentic honesty, trust is gained from listeners and artists. Show the route of the donated money clearly. The name ‘Karma’ also relates to this: if the middle men take too much money from the revenue stream, it will be bad for their own Karma.    But Karma also works the other way around. At the moment Spotify is arguably the largest source for music consumption. That brings responsibility to support the artists where possible. By taking the lead in adopting the Karma button, Spotify shows the world that they take their mission serious.    And it brings lots of opportunities. By adding Karma, the freemium model makes a lot of sense for  artists. All fans should have free access to Spotify so everyone can use Karma to express their gratitude. Artists will encourage their fans to use the Karma button on Spotify. If they like they can place a QR-Karma code on their outings at concerts (on tickets etc), which offers the audience a possibility to give them a ‘tip’ via the Karma button on their Spotify page.    I offer this idea just for my own good Karma.
