Discovering new podcasts on Spotify

Mario

Podcasting, once a relatively unknown method of circulating information via audio transmissions, has become a widely recognized medium for distributing audio content. Similar to radio programs in principle, podcasts exist as audio files that can be played at a listener's convenience, anytime or anywhere.

When Spotify launched in 2008, who could have thought that audio - not only music - would have been its future? Today, Spotify users love having podcasts as a part of their experience. Perhaps, that’s because not only “music” specifically but also “audio” content has manifested an endless potential to tell stories which  do entertain, educate, challenge, inspire, or bring us together, along the lines of what an inspired man once said

Whether you’re one of our podcast lovers who’s constantly on the lookout for new content or you’re an enthusiastic beginner open to exploring, there are a couple of ways you should try when it comes to discovering new podcasts on Spotify.

Keep reading if you’d like to know more 🙂

1) Your Daily Podcasts playlist

You’ve just binged your favorite podcast and you’re finally caught up. But now you have to wait an entire week until the next episode. Now what? With so many great podcasts on Spotify, it can be hard to know what to listen to next. Thanks to the personalized playlist "Your Daily Podcasts", it’s now easier than ever. If you’ve listened to at least four podcasts in the past 90 days, you’ll find the playlist in the "Your Top Podcasts" shelf on "Home" or in the "Made For You" hub on browse.

Here’s how the playlist works:

  • Spotify’s algorithms analyze your podcast behavior (e.g. recent streams and follows).
  • Then, based on your listening history and the podcast type, you’ll receive recommendations featuring the best episodes for you. That might be the next sequential episode in a podcast you’re already listening to, a recent stand-alone evergreen episode in another show.
  • If you’ve never listened to a story-driven sequential show you’d like, you’ll get the trailer or pilot episode first to see if it resonates with you.
  • This feature is currently available for a number of countries.

2) New Podcasts playlists

Through the new editorial podcast playlists, Spotify is helping you find your next favorite show by introducing you to the latest and greatest in podcast content.
As part of the launch, three flagship playlists are available. Find their names and the key related info below. As a heads-up, these playlists are currently available for a number of countries and the playlists' content will be localized for each available market.
