Monthly Ideas Review

Every month the Community Team reviews our Ideas Board. In this blog we'll present some of the ones we’ve updated in the past month!

IMPLEMENTED:

1.  Sorting Options for List of Playlists

With the recent update to Your Library on mobile, it's now possible to sort and filter your Playlists, Artists and Albums in more ways.

To find the filters, just pull down on the tab you're on, select filters and then choose the one you'd like. The 'Custom Order' filter on the Playlist section will mirror the order you have on Desktop - which means it's now possible to maintain the way your organise your tunes on Desktop across to Mobile.

2. Bring Back Albums' Length

3. Add & Remove Content separately (Artist, Album, Songs)

4. Car View

5. Bring back the old Web Player

GOOD IDEA:

6. Spotify in Ukraine

Spotify is launching regularly in countries around the world. Please keep an eye on the Spotify blog or signup here to be first to hear if we reach Ukraine.

NOT RIGHT NOW:

7. Add complete Playlists to the Queue

We just wanted to update this to say it's possible to add all tracks from a playlist to your queue on Desktop. To do so, just head to your playlist > select all tracks using 'Ctrl/Cmd + A' > right click and select 'Add to Queue'.

There aren't currently plans to implement this on Mobile,  but if anything changes we'll update you here.

CASE CLOSED:

8. Bring back Recently Played to Your Library

With the new update you can now find your Recently Played tunes section on the home screen. Additionally, it's also possible to sort your Albums, Artists and Playlist by Recently Added. To do so, pull down to reveal the search bar, click the 'filters' options and then select 'Recently Played'. You'll also spot some other filter options too, like 'Name' so you can sort your playlists alphabetically.

9. Bring Spotify's old UI back

10. Option to show Lyrics only

When artist's older albums/mixtapes become available to stream, label them the year they were dropped verse when they were put on the platform e.g. Chance the Rappers's Acid Rap, 2013, and 10 Day, 2012.

Hey DonBongo,

Just a quick response to the comment that you made...

Question:

‘’ What is the point of saying you can disable notifications for followed artists?’’

Answer:

In case you change your mind the next day and decide that you don’t like the artist no more, then you have the option of disabling notifications so you don’t have to be reminded that their still singing. Options are always good regardless of whether it suits you or not because it might suit someone else, if it doesn’t then you have the option of not disabling it, how’s that for options? Plenty of them!! So, long story short, my best word of advice to you would be to either look to the left or look to the right, instead of looking straight at your screen in order to avoid all eye contact with the notification setting.

Hey LethalCure,

Not sure what you mean here. As far as I know there are no options to disable notifications for certain followed artists while leaving the ones I actually care about enabled. Just a general "disable all" for new music from an artist, activity, etc.

My point is that now that we are forced to follow every artist to populate our libraries the notifications are bulging with noise I don't care about. I can no longer curate my specific follow list since the update and am forced to disable all notifications that come from artists.

Previously I could have my liked artists area (which was every artist who had an album or song I had saved) and my followed artists area (which was very small and heavily curated). I can't see how this update has done anything other than take options away from me and made my user experience far worse.

I really miss not being able to see the number of songs in my playlists. Why not just put it next to playtime?

The idea of eliminating alphabetizing the playlists when you want to add songs to an existing playlist. To have to scroll this feature is frustrating and extremely annoying. You don’t know where an existing playlist is when everything is random. I really don’t understand who thought that this would be easier to use. I cringe when I want to add something. It’s tedious.
