Spotify paints it black with new look

New Spotify Look

Today we’re launching the best-looking Spotify ever. Introducing a new darker theme, refreshed typography and rounded iconography, playing your favourite music has never looked so good.

We’re not only improving our looks though. We know how much you love playlists, but that you’ve been looking for more ways of managing your music. So today we’re introducing Your Music: helping you save, organise and browse your favourite music the way you want to. All in one place, and across all platforms.

Building your personal music collection just got a lot easier.

  • Content is king. Our new design makes accessing your favourite music smoother than ever before. The new dark theme and refined interface lets the content come forward and ‘pop’, just like in a cinema when you dim the lights.
  • It’s Your Music collection. Save albums and browse their beautiful cover art, gather your favourite artists and create playlists for every mood and moment. Found a song or album that you like? Just hit save to add it to your collection. It’s that simple.
  • We know you’ll love it. We’ve listened to all your great feedback to ensure that everything looks and feels just right. You told us you preferred a darker interface – so here it is.

We’re also improving our Browse feature, delivering even more relevant and localised content. So regardless of whether you’re looking for something to fall asleep to, or the perfect playlist to get you geared up for your big night out, finding the right music for every moment is easier than ever.

Our new design, Your Music and the updated Browse will roll out gradually to our iPhone, desktop and web users from today, and will soon be available across all platforms.

Welcome to the dark side.

I'm halfway satisfied with the redesign, but some of the changes are blatant ripoff's of Rdio's design. Most notably the circular and smaller artist icons. They're far worse than before.

Fantastic new design, congratulations!

This one really matches iOS 7 much better and I'm glad you went the "dark" route.

Can't wait till it roll's out on my iPad, PC, and Mac, and also looking forward to use the "Collection" feature.

I heavily criticized the previous, half-baked adoption to the iOS 7 style, but really am happy with what you came up now. Thank you for the effort.

I prefer older look. This one is too dark. How can I go back to previous version ?

I haven't got the update for Windows yet (and I'm on Android so I guess I have to wait a bit for that update...)

But from what I've seen in the screenshots, it looks beautiful. I can't wait to try it out!

Just updated and there's already a glitch -- displaying my playlists offline, only about half of them display the name of the playlist.  The others are just generic, e.g. "11 tracks."  If I then click on the "11 tracks," it displays the name of the playlist, and when I go back to the list of playlists it is now properly displayed.  But I would have to do this with all of my playlists to see them.

I am using iOS 6+ on an iPod Touch.

Previous version (0.9.7) looks buggy and Gapless Playback and Crossfade tracks are broken unless you don't want those features then you can go ahead and download the old version.

I see that there is no "star" button anymore. (though you can now add songs to the "starred" playlist. In place of the star appears to be a "+" save button by every song (in addition to the save album as playlist button). What does this do in comparison with the the star? It lets me click the save button even though I don't have Premium, so it is not obvious to me what the individual song save button's function is. Don't know if this was already answered in the FAQ or something.

well looks like I have YOUR MUSIC from beta test sign up, but not new IU yet. Have it on iphone and really like it so far. BUT I am extremely bummed out my biggest fear has come true with COLLECTIONS/YOUR MUSIC: NO GENRE SORT!! I am hoping this will be added. Hate to complain but those of us with huge collections who listen to all genres of music really need this! All my playlists are sorted by genre folders, then subfolders by artists of that genre. So YOUR MUSIC is kind of useless to me as it is. Bumming. Spotify out of all the music services seems so much more geared to music lovers and music lovers usually like many genres of music and not just the latest chart topper. Hope this gets added. Pretty Please? :)

Nope. Guess I was wrong. Looking at screenshots on websites of the new YOUR MUSIC I guess I DON'T have it yet. SO THERE'S HOPE? !!! I have a YOUR MUSIC in the sidebar but not what it looks like in screen shots. Weird. Was this always there?

As it says in the announcement, "Our new design, Your Music and the updated Browse will roll out gradually to our iPhone, desktop and web users from today, and will soon be available across all platforms."

Does that mean that it will roll out, despite applying for the "your music" beta?

Beta users normally get early releases to test so you should get it sooner. You should get an email explaining everything soon.

I do have to agree, the design is pretty awesome. But one complaint. The album artwork used to be high resolution on the iPhone. The album art quality is horrible now. It's one of the parts of Spotify that I loved but now it's gone.

The new update is much more better looking than the old version, but I do have a complaint.

The album covers from my local files don't show up on my iPhone 4. For example, I have downloaded G.O.O.D. Fridays, a collection of the songs that G.O.O.D. Music released back in 2010 and every song has an own cover. In my laptop I can see the covers while playing one the songs. The cover also showed up on my iPhone in the old version but now it just shows a black note on a white background.

The same thing has happened in every song from my local files that isn't in spotifys database. Otherwise I would be very happy about the update but this somewhat minor problem is really making it a bit tougher to enjoy the new update.

And also the album artwork that does show up is much more uglier because of the lower resolution.
