Soaring Riffs + Lifted Spirits + Singable lyrics + A Prog-Rock Supergroup = Flying Colors

Introducing Flying Colors; a prog-rock supergroup made up of a collective of musicians from respected bands such as Dream Theater, Deep Purple, and Transatlantic. Comprising of Casey McPherson (Alpha Rev) on rhythm guitar and vocals, Neal Morse (Spocks Beard, Transatlantic) on keyboards and vocals, Steve Morse (Deep Purple) on lead guitar, Dave LaRue on bass (Joe Satriani, Steve Vai), and Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater, Transatlantic) on drums and vocals, the band combines the sounds found on each of their past ventures into one, creating something truly awesome in the process.

The band released its debut self-titled album in 2012. Opening with the pleasing “Blue Ocean”, Flying Colors sound works best on “Kayla”, “Better Than Walking Away and the epic 12-minute closing track, “Infinite Fire”. Strong vocals combine with a truly progressive rock sound on all 11 tracks on this album.

Their second album, Second Nature, was released in 2014. Unlike Flying Colors, the follow-up features much longer songs, as well as the addition of extra instruments. You’ll hear cellos, violins, violas and even a gospel choir alongside the pre-existing keyboard, drums, bass, rhythm and lead guitars. Opening with the solo-heavy “Open Up Your Eyes”, stand-out tracks on this 11 track album include “The Fury of My Love” and “Mask Machine”.

If you’re a fan of any of the above bands, or you’re just looking for a new dose of guitar-laden rock, then check out Flying Colors!
