Thanks for your reply.

 

Just to confirm, did you already try running a clean reinstall of the app by following these steps? This can be helpful to get rid of any cached files that might be causing trouble.

Multiple people are having this issue, have you found any solutions?

I've done all the suggested things, clean install etc.  I banned Billy Idol this morning for at least the 20th time, he just keeps coming back.  And many others!

Could you let us know if this is happening across devices or on a specific one? 

 

Additionally, would you mind sending us a screenshot of the options you're seeing when you open the menu tapping on the 3 dots of the artists page?

 

Also, we'd like to know if you're only seeing the artists you blocked recently in your recommendations or you're seeing the ones you blocked a long time ago.

it's happening on my iphone 11 promax, latest os.

i haven't looked at other devices

it seems to be artists I've deleted (tried to delete) over the past 4-5
months

I've deleted and reinstalled the app after a clean reinstall

this is the screenshot

I select "Don't play this artist" and the block sign appears up above
next to the artist, but it does no good.  The artist just keeps coming
back on play lists.

It looks like the screenshots weren't attached correctly. Could you try it again? You can attach them to your next reply by tapping on the camera icon in the post editor.

I don't know if you are receiving my messages, I've had no response for
days.

Here is a typical occurrence, Billy Idol has been "do not played" dozens
of times, yet continues to be added to playlists:

So I "do not play this artist" and get:

You'd think this would take care of it, but he keeps coming back, and
this happens with all artist that I ban.

This is not a problem with my phone!

Could you check if the songs you're getting recommendations for are singles by Billy Idol?

 

Because, if Billy Idol is featuring in a song, it won't get filtered out.

Yes, I'm very aware of this limitation.  Billy Idol himself has been "do
not played" well over 20 times and the same for several dozen other
artists.

I have done a clean re install, deleted and reinstalled the app, no help.

Can you try logging in to a different account, like a friend's or relative's, or create a new free account, and try blocking artists there? Let us know if that works properly in that account.

I do not have access to another account and it would take some time to see if blocked artists stayed blocked.

Can you confirm if whenever you go to the Billy Idol page you find the option Don't play this unselected, and you have to tap it again, or if you manually tap on Allow to play this and then Don't play this again? We're trying to understand if this is something related to the option not being saved or if it's being saved but isn't working properly.

If I ban an artist it “works” and the circle/slash symbol appears. A day or two later the ban is gone and the artist is played again.
As an experiment I banned an artist, it worked and then I turned off the phone then back on again. When I checked the artist the ban was gone! So at least we know that a power on/off cycle reverses the ban.

It follows that the changes are not being saved.

I did the same thing with my wife’s phone, she has her own account ( same version of Spotify) and the ban was still in effect after a power on/off cycle!

So it looks like something is indeed wrong with my phone. Shall I just try the clean reinstall again?

Can you perform another clean reinstall of the app to see if the issue persist?

 

Also, it would be great if you can log in with your account on a different device to see if you get the same experience?

Thanks for continuing this quest! It is infuriating and I am determined to find a solution.
I again did a clean install (5th time) and blocked Marianne faithful and billy idol. The circle/slash icon appears and it seems to have been saved. However if I power cycle my phone the blocks are gone and the artists appear in daily mixes.
My wife has a Spotify account and the block function works perfectly. Hers is an iPhone 8, mine is an 11pro.
You may not have seen my last email in which I said I had purchased a new iPad mini, loaded my Spotify account and had the same problem, ie artists could be blocked but the setting did not last.
I tried one more thing, thinking that the power on/off cycle was deleting my settings. I left my phone on and after 2days the block settings disappeared so something else is going on.
Please lmk if there’s anything else we can try.

This seems to be an issue related to your account. In this case, we'd suggest creating a new account here in order to see if you notice the same behavior. 

 

If the same thing happens with the new account, it would be helpful to have some screenshots where we can take a better look at what's happening. You can attach them using the Insert Photos option in the post editor.

If I try to establish a new account with the same name/address the
system will not accept it.  I really need some input from Spotify on how
to handle two separate accounts, keep my playlists etc and then cancel
the original if the new account works properly.

Not to worry!

 

Keep in mind that the system won't allow you to create a new account with the same email address, so in this case you'll need another one. 

 

If the new account works as it should, you can take a look at this article that describes how to start over and transfer all your music and followers. 

 

You can also follow the steps you'll find here in order to cancel the subscription on the old account and avoid any double charges.

I mainly use spotify on desktop using the mac os app or my browser. I was wondering for a while if a such option exist but never found it. After reading this post I discovered that it exist on my phone. Should I take my phone every time I want to remove artists ? Is there any way to do it on desktop ?
