How often does an artist followers update? Is it supposed to update multiple times in a day?

I noticed that recently, Spotify is updating artist followers multiple times in the day by slowly adding followers. How often are followers supposed to update (for public viewing)? I previously thought that Spotify updated once daily (usually), but is Spotify followers for artists glitching or does it updated in real time?
