New Home Feed Interface?

Solved!

New Home Feed Interface?

Sorry but this new "tiktok-like" interface is so ugly. Spotify needs to realise that a familiar design on one app absolutely doesn't work for others. It doesn't "promote discovery" and honestly just makes me feel less inclined to scroll through hundreds of what looks like Stories to find new music. It's an absolute eyesore and an assault on the ears to scroll through.

iOS, Android or any other platform? Working in tech myself it feels kind of wrong to have such an old version of Spotify installed (something something something security risk). I can indeed confirm it's now only on the "Music" tab on iOS (my wife's iPhone), but I'm afraid to update on my own phone (Android). My wife never got the complete Tiktok Home overhaul, so she was baffled that I wanted to cancel the subscription ("you're overreacting, as per usual"). Since neither of us ever visit the "Music" tab, as Home does the trick for both of us, she came around very quickly when she tapped "Music" when I said the Tiktok feed could be under there and she finally saw the mess with her own eyes (and ears, as auto-play still is a thing). I didn't even know that menu existed, never touched it even once as I always use Release Radar and the other recommendations Spotify does from the Home screen (see, it was doing its job perfectly!), so if that's the "fix" (just use Home instead of the "music" tab, so... use Spotify as I always did), I can at least keep Spotify for now.

Still, though, it should be gone altogether - it was a terrible design choice, and now that I've browsed the old style "music" tab on my older version of Spotify, that also makes way more sense than a blaring page with a single video tile.

Thanks everyone for posting here in the community and letting us know what you think - I have shared all of your messages. I can confirm that all current tests related to the mobile Home feed have ended. All of the data and feedback will inform any future tests. It may take a little time to see the changes, try restarting a couple of times.

We will close this thread for any further comments soon.

Thank you so very much for getting things back in a working order.

The homefeed scrolling is very laggy though, looking forward to a fix for that.

Unbelievably, Spotify has admitted to having messed up. However, it's too late for me and my family, because we feel very comfortable with AM and Spotify has already announced to put even more advertising in the app in the future.

Never should have been forced on people, the option to opt out should always be given, forcing horrible design has cost Spotify subscribers

pass that feedback along as well, not that it matters to me, very happy with Tidal now, guess I should thank Spotify and their ridiculous design team for forcing me to check Tidal out

Hooray!  As long as you don't just select 'music' the proper 'music aficionado' UI appears to be back - should satisfy us and Generation Z subscribers.  Next project - Audio Quality!  Can now take advantage of my 3 month offer! 🙂

‘All current tests related to mobile home feed have end.’ Seem like a good thing for us loneliest cabin.

But I’m unsure about this ‘All of the data and feedback will inform any future tests.’

Hey manager.

Please revert back to normal home soon in my account too. I completely stopped discovery on mobile because of tiktok.

Everything I dismiss comes back, crime podcasts etc. I do not want to see them.

It's nice to hear this test will end! Horrible update and in the future please let us opt out from test.

Or do these test with test app, made for that purpose for certain people selected/or with any surveys.

Maybe I can discover on phone again... will not cancel Premium when prepaid ends at the 01/24. Will extend with another year if you remove tiktok view as soon as possible with money I get collecting bottles and tin cans thanks. 120 e worth of gift cards.

If you want to keep my 120 euros a year, then please do what your clients want. Old view to all asap!

No tests like this anymore. Those clients who changed to Apple or Tidal may or may not come back. Congrats!

There is some light of hope. Thank you again Spotify manager for dropping your lines...

Thank you so much!!!

Old view is now back. No more tik tok. Only in tabs tik tok. I don't mind that as you never use tabs anyway.

Again full functional home page. In tabs is tiktok going too, or just home page, if manager can answer?

I will hurry up later on to collect €120 for 12 months more of Spotify Premium.

Thank you for listening your costumers, it used so much data, these canvases. Now it doesn't use anything.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

I will take a beverage for this today, so much pain, heat and sweat for using this Tiktok view. No more!

It's too bad many clients left already with no return, so I recommend to learn big from these tests made.

Every recent update to Spotify mobile or the desktop app has degraded the service. I'm really considering moving to Apple Music or something else.

I don't want TikTok and I don't want Spotify to copy TikTok. Not everybody is a 15 year old schoolboy/girl who wants to look at portrait video all day. I just want to be able to find and play my favorite music!

The new dektop UI is horrible. They made it so more difficult to use it, so many more clicks. And it was already worse than the iterations that came before it.

I've just celebrated the launch of this new feature with a new purchase 🥳

I've been around a while now.

Can I have the 2009 client back please?

Things I need my music player to do:

* Have lots of content

* Play music

* Make playlists

Things I don't need:

* A social network

* Podcasts

* A Radio DJ

* Literally anything else

Most users use spotify to manage their own music, not primarily to discover new music. The latter is handled perfectly by the suggestions made by your (great) algorithm, in playlists like Discover Weekly and Release Radar. Now it's like we are forced to go discover new music, and nobody likes to be forced. By the way, even for the purpose of discovering new music, the design is simply horrible. Would have liked to attend the meetings where this was decided.

I keep accidentally hitting skip with ym thumb, when I go to swipe up on the homescreen on my iphone.

This is due to the horrible placement of the player right at the bottom of the screen!

This is incredibly frustrating if I have queued songs and then have to go into the app just to re-add them since pressing back won't bring the songs back into the queue.

Why was it moved from the much more sensible central placement? It was perfect and fine where it was. Why did it need to be moved - what purpose or improvement does it serve?
Is there any way to 'lock' the player to prevent this from happening?

Any help or insight would be appreciated, thanks.

I actually used spotify (past tense) to discover music, which is the
opposite use case as yourself. Additionally, I also like using tiktok.
However, this update makes the product unusable and I left for Apple Music.
Like other users have mentioned, I hadn’t realized how much better the
sound quality is on other services, so in a way I’m glad this was rolled
out. I used to be such a proponent of this service, it’s the end of an era
for myself and my family.

First of all thank you for listening to feedback and (hopefully)  reverting those changes.

However, as I still get those annoying "reels" when selecting music or podcasts, I just want to make one thing clear:

This is not just annoying and unwanted on the pure homescreen but just as bad when selecting the the "Music" and "Podcasts & Shows" filter.

As someone stated above: The algorithm already did a splendid job when it came to putting those together. And the old UI was great for browsing through them and discovering new playlists, artists or podcast episodes.

The new changes make this a horrible user experience and caused me to try out some dedicated podcast apps. I'll miss the ability to mix music and podcasts, e.g. with daily drive, but that ain't worth it.

We want a commitment by Spotify to not force video and auto-play. Having a Video Playback selector that only allowed a choice between Low, Medium, High and Very High for video streaming assumes we want video in the first place.

Good one, thank you. Too bad it was such a long and annoying adventure but good on spotify for listening. We should be keeping an eye on what will come next though, if such bad decisions have been made before it means that they may bungle up again.

Still, I'm already one leg in Deezer ecosystem and use it from time to time instead of Spotify, especially when lossless is concerned. Price you pay for lame business practices.

I already ended my sub at the end of March as soon as I realized this was the road Spotify was taking. While I appreciate it has changed back I am still skeptical since co president explained why they did this. Unless he comes back out and states they've ended this experiment I will stay on sidelines. It's clear Spotify is shifting business model to different type of users. Music only customers will slowly lose any priority

Oh my god, they disabled the horrific mobile UI update, and then just applied the previous update that everyone got mad about to the desktop app

Honestly, I do appreciate the audacity Spotify, might as well pull the trigger on all the unpopular updates you had planned. Surely the pathetic TikTok pivot will cover for them all.

Honestly was considering getting off Apple music after I saw the reversal on the mobile app, now that's completely out of the question lol

They are straight up trying to gaslight us, pretending it was just a test. Some of us saw the New UI Presentation Video.
