Sorry but this new "tiktok-like" interface is so ugly. Spotify needs to realise that a familiar design on one app absolutely doesn't work for others. It doesn't "promote discovery" and honestly just makes me feel less inclined to scroll through hundreds of what looks like Stories to find new music. It's an absolute eyesore and an assault on the ears to scroll through.
Solved! Go to Solution.
I like to know too. The best option to move to. YouTube Music?
You do realise tomjgad, that most of us spend alot of money to use spotify. So are with in our right to vent.
If your offended by our disappointment, feel free to stay out of the thread
Yeah dude, the monthly fee is debilitating for access to the world’s collection of music around the clock on demand.
And vent! I’m with you. You certainly have that right. But add in some steps to fix the stuff that’s apparently ruining your life. Document issues, read how you’re supposed to report frustrations through the right channels, etc. Turning the forum into an echo chamber is not going to get the results you’re looking for.
Like many others, I have found myself frustrated over the changes made to the spotify home screen. It seems to be following a trend to make everything more ‘tik tok’ like, one which i personally really dislike. Despite the many complaints over this change it has still been pushed, and for many like me makes the home screen unusable - where I can no longer easily access any of the playlists and daily mixes that I used to. A very simple fix could be just to include a slider in settings to “simplify home screen” or something to that effect. That way, everyone can have the option to use the old layout, without needing to downgrade the app to a previous version and stop updating. It also then allows for more customisability, while retaining consistency for all - which is always good
It's almost like it wants to force you to spend time in the app, rather than actually using it to listen to my music. It seems like a cynical excuse to try advertise rather than a good UI decision.
Genuinely might switch to Tidal.
I really hope they change it back, it's genuinely awful. I use Spotify for music not social media.
Tidal, YouTube Music or Apple Music are good shouts.
I wholeheartedly agree. I wanted to use the app today and was screamed at by a random song upon opening it. When you turn off the volume it is just automatically turned on again when closing and opening the app again. This seriously drives me crazy.
All this only resulted in me thinking about cancelling my subscription. Not gonna stay if they don't change it or at least make this horror optional.
I just wanted to say that I didn't even know spotify comunity existed until today, and quite frankly, I would have been much happier if I didn't have to actively dig through the internet for this, but here is the thing:
PLEASE change the UI back. Or at least add an option for it.
I use the app daily and this new home page is just a very unfortunate way of trying to mimic other social platforms... As I see it, the update completely missed the point - spotify was an original - and now it tries to be a copy.
100% agree. This UI is terrible. I don't want these full screen (on mobile) "previews", and I certainly don't want them to autoplay the music. At least give me an option to turn off autoplay. But prefer to have a different UI -- any other UI, frankly.
Edit to add : I've been a Spotify subscriber for 6 yrs. Usually love the service but cannot stand this new UI.
Where do I even start with this... so many things are wrong with this new update.
First of all, the implementation sucks. Music auto-plays on full volume as soon as you open the app. The entire home page is a goofy-looking, dollar store version of Instagram stories. The video clips that play are an eyesore and an information overload. There isn't a single upside to any of these changes. And the worst part is, none of these things are even the real issue.
The real issue is that the entire concept behind the design change was totally flawed from the start. You'd think Spotify of all companies would understand this, but apparently not, so here's a friendly reminder:
📢 MUSIC IS NOT SHORT FORM CONTENT, SPOTIFY 📢
No artist intends for their art to be heard in ten-second chunks. No listener wants to hear their favorite song, or a new song for that matter, as a ten-second clip, started at a random point halfway through, and ending abruptly to go on to the next ten-second clip totally unrelated from the last. It's nonsense.
So in the end, all this update does is bury the actual music, what people actually use Spotify for, beneath mountains of faux-social media BS that nobody wants to sift through. It ruins the user experience.
I'm especially disappointed because I just switched to Spotify in January from Apple Music. Why did I switch? Because Spotify's home page and recommendations really impressed me. And now, after transferring my entire library over to Spotify, they drop this disaster of an update that makes me wish I'd just stuck with Apple Music. It sucks.
The community backlash to this update has obviously been huge, and for good reason. I hope Spotify takes the criticism to heart and reverts the home screen back to the way it was, and quickly. If they don't, I'll be going back to Apple Music, and I've seen a lot of people saying they're doing the same.
TL;DR: Spotify isn't a social media platform. Stop trying to make it one. Revert the horrible home screen changes ASAP. And while you're at it, give us back the like button too.

On the new home screen, when I open the app, there are giant album covers of podcasts. I know everyone is upset about it (me, too, for the record!) but I have a technical problem with it.
When you scroll through the home screen albums, they autoplay random snippets from a podcast episodes. I need to turn that OFF. To be clear, I just mean the audio playing when scrolled over, just like how Netflix will autoplay previews of a show when you mouse over them; the only difference (as far as I can tell) is that Netflix has a toggle option for the previews, whereas I cannot find one on Spotify.
Can anyone help me?
In the top right corner of those videos there should be a volume button you can press to knock it off. Thats how it appears on mine. Good luck.
Ps. Agreed. Its an awful update.
The new (March 2023) update is failing to work smoothly with my older hardware. The option to not play music/video art would help this. The removal of the 75% screen tiles and returning to a list of playlists would actually be an even better solution. Something like the Home screen previous to the Podcast update back in mid-2021(2?). Regardless of the methods, a UI that is friendlier to older/slower devices would be much appreciated.
You are an unacceptable excuse for a mod on this forum. For you to mock someone because 10 bucks a month is a lot of money to them is pathetic. Furthermore if you can't see past that the solution is to revert the app back because it is an utter failure, instead of calling us a mob with pitchforks, then your status as a mod should be revoked immediately. You are representative of Spotify. Although your little tag says you're "not an employee", you are a disgrace and and an example of what Spotify has become. One word. Trash. Now. Once again. We are telling you this new UI update is unacceptable to us. Go on reddit. You will find the same. If your pea brain can't comprehend the solution we are asking for then get someone in here who can.
I'm on board with leaving Spotify if this isn't corrected... change it back or at least give us the option to revert back to the old UI or I am going to Apple Music.
All you have to do is watch the stream on event to see that auto playing video and destroying the user experience in favor of paid promotion from artist and creators was the goal from the onset. Go check reddit. You'll find the same pooey taste in everyone's mouth over there as well..
Ok, Tom, you want steps to fix this? I can do it in one - roll it back to the way it was. BAM - fixed.
Document issues? Have you not been reading these threads that you are replying to? Several posts list exactly what people hate about this. I really don't get what you are trying to do here. I've reached out to Customer Service and guess what? They sent me here. Short of joining the Spotify UI team, I'm not sure what else you are expecting people to do.
"Dear Spotify, please read this so we can open up a constructive dialogue." How's that? So smug.
The best way I found to turn this off is Settings > Data Saver > Data Saver off. For the iOS app.
Now on my home screen, it gives me a "tap to preview" option instead of automatically playing. Not sure how turning the data saver off will affect anything else on the app. Haven't gotten past my utter disappointment and annoyance with this new home screen.
I just got the Spotify update for the feed in the Spotify mobile app. It is the worst thing I've ever used, I can no longer find any of the playlists I want. Now music plays when I'm looking for music and I don't like it. I've had the update for about in an hour and I'm seriously considering going back to apple music, this is the single worst update I've ever seen.
I loved the old UI. It was never so easy and simple to find good music, songs, artists and albums. It was gentle and simple designed.
I am one of the top 1% listeners in my central European country each year and a very loyal user but I am seriously thinking about cancelling my subscribtion and switching to a different music player. The algorithm works still as good as ever but the new UI goes in a certain direction I will and can't follow. I don't want a cancerous TikTok version of Spotify. The old design was perfect, don't change what is not broken and please stick to your roots of easy and fast accessible music. A simple design like a gentle album cover opens the door to a different world full of great music. Don't change that, trust your roots, the app was good as it was, I spend each day listening for hours and I love finding music and following a road that was always hidden in my heart. Please, do not change that. Please give back the old UI.
PS: l think the new change goes in a very different direction and tries to break into a market where no victory can be gained.
PPS: I don't like the trending feature either.
PPS: The app no longer works as intended, the best features: Recommended music and picked albums got hidden, I don't like overstimulation, nor trending and popular music, I like customisation and simplicity. I hope someone listens and others share my sentiment and or find better words for my inner sadness and despair in regards to the change and the direction we are heading.
Edit: They added my post here, mods at least give reasons... I feel a bit silenced tbh..
