Sorry but this new "tiktok-like" interface is so ugly. Spotify needs to realise that a familiar design on one app absolutely doesn't work for others. It doesn't "promote discovery" and honestly just makes me feel less inclined to scroll through hundreds of what looks like Stories to find new music. It's an absolute eyesore and an assault on the ears to scroll through.
Thanks everyone for posting here in the community and letting us know what you think - I have shared all of your messages. I can confirm that all current tests related to the mobile Home feed have ended. All of the data and feedback will inform any future tests. It may take a little time to see the changes, try restarting a couple of times.
We will close this thread for any further comments soon.
I absolutely despise that everything is trying to be like TikTok now. If I wanted TikTok, I would download bleeping TikTok, bring back Spotify.
Yep, I'm seriously considering switching.
Is there any way I can go back to the old layout? Or am I just gonna have to cancel my subscription and give up everything I used to love about Spotify in favor of something that isn't a dumb TikTok wannabe?
I have a sh&$load of new POP music facing me when I open it. The type of music Ilisten to is nowhere to be found. Im not looking to discover terrible pop music, but may discover apple or amazon.
I've never been on here before, I've used Spotify for a long, long time and been a premium member for as long as they've had it. This update has made me so furious that I'm actively figuring out how to move all my favorite music to Apple Music.
Spotify really goofed on this one and I'm freaking **bleep** off.
I'm so livid about this update that I'm on here looking for fellow dissenters. SPOTIFY THIS UPDATE IS APPALLING.
If you don't change this back ASAP, you will lose a long-time paying customer.
Burying the recently played in the top right corner is infuriating, so is the idiotic "song subcategories" below each album in the recently played area. I'm getting even angrier just typing this out.
Why do you insist on destroying the one thing about your app that made it enjoyable: NOT BEING TIKTOK
NOBODY wants to doom-scroll through snippets of music and save them for later.
WHY would you take away the recently played music off the home page?? WHAT GENIUS CAME UP WITH THAT?
I, like many of you, am absolutely furious over this new update. I'm cancelling if they don't revert back to the previous UI immediately, as in within the next 48 hours.
Here's why:
I cannot believe how AWFUL this update is. I'm actively looking for other options that will suit my needs and I will cancel immediately when I figure out the best alternative.
Fix:
Go back to the previous UI/UX, abandon the idiotic TikTok wannabe one, bring back the heart, and DONT EVER DO THIS AGAIN.
WAY TO GO, SPOTIFY! YOU PLAYED YOURSELF.
looks like ass, can agree. Even if it looked good it wouldn't work cause music is not short form content.
I don't care how many terrible UIs you make just don't force them on me. TikTok layouts don't work when you don't have short form addictive content. I wasn't about to cancel my subscription so why does Spotify feel the need to make me consider it?
Just give me an option to use the old UIs or allow / make it easier for people to make skins for it.
UX does not stand for Useless eXperience...
Give me the old UI back please.
I am absolutely livid at this update. It completely obliterates all the features I used. How am I supposed find anything with these single giant tiles for one podcast or artist. My discover is gone. New releases. Gone. I seriously can't believe the devs did this.
Spotify completely obliterated the way 99% of users use the app (for music). And turn it in to something that we never asked for. Then tell us to get used to it... that's rich. I'll give Spotify 2 weeks to return the app to its previous functionality or I'll cancel my family subscription that I've had for over a decade. This update is beyond disgraceful. As far as I'm concerned Spotify died with this update. Kind of like MySpace did with beta....
This update is atrocious. They managed to make a music and discovery focused app that was smooth and seamless completely unusable.
I hit the button to mute the cards, and that works for a few days, but it keeps unmuting. Besides the sounds being annoying, the cards are worthless and made my experience finding music much worse. Why would i want scrolling content.
I totally share the frustration. I never felt so angry and disappointed at the same time.
I hope they remove this update.
I accept this as a solution.
First off, long time user here. All the way back when the UI was white and green. I've personally sold more Spotify subscriptions to my friends then Spotify could have ever sold to them. Here's the deal. I use Spotify when I'm driving. Or working (I operate earth moving equipment). Spotify was a incredibly seamless and functional app. WAS. When I'm working it WAS very easy to navigate. Find new music. Find a podcast. Ect. When I'm driving Spotify on Android auto is useless so I use my phone to navigate the app.
Again. This app has been the one and only app I use for the amount of time (sometimes 10 or 11 hours a day) I use my phone.
But let me make this 100% clear to the wizards of dumb that did this to my beloved app. This update is beyond terrible I won't even give it a chance as far as trying to relearn it. The tick toc single tile scroll abomination that has become Spotify guarantees without a doubt I'll be canceling my family subscription unless the app is reverted back to what it was yesterday.
The app is now completely useless to me. It is dangerous for me to navigate and use while I'm working. Sitting in traffic. And completely infuriating for when I'm at home and want to quickly find something to put on without getting sucked into a half hour of tik toc style trash from what should be a long form application.
Better get to fixing this Spotify.. I can guarantee the amount of users you are about to lose is going cost your shareholders a pile of money.
Well said, and I'm in the exact same boat. I have been a paying customer for at least 6 years. I loved Spotify. But, I have ZERO confidence in the CEO or leadership because of this catastrophic shift. Even if they revert it back to the old UI right now, I know that they will be trying to sneak tiktok in somehow in the future.
Spotify had a lot of charm with their curated playlists. I do owe them gratitude for helping me to find music that I probably otherwise would not have.
That's why this UI feels like such a stab in the back. It's so artificial and grating. I feel betrayed.
I'm actively filling out Apple Music with my favorite artists and albums, and making what I can out of playlists.
Apple Music does have higher quality audio. Seems a little louder too, which is great.
Spotify really messed up on this one.
This is exactly how I feel. I used Spotify PASSIVELY, and I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THAT ABOUT IT.
I also mostly use it while driving or working or working out. It's one of the apps that I COUNT ON DAILY.
But this update is so awful that I'm going out of my way to make sure that they know I'm cancelling.
As soon as I get Apple Music updated with the artists and playlists I have, I will cancel.
It's absolutely terrible. The worst UI experience I think I've ever endured.
