Toni Basil

Toni Basil

So I just noticed on my complete #1 songs of the 1980s playlist that Toni Basil's "Mickey" is suddenly and randomly greyed out.  Yep, turns out Basil is totally gone from Spotify now.  Still available on iTunes.  Anyone care to share or investigate the reason if they know it?  We do know a couple of things: 1. The reason won't be a good reason and 2. We won't get any answer from Spotify (see their huge response to the Andy Gibb question).  In this age, when even Prince is now available, there's just no excuse for **bleep** like this happening anymore, things disappearing.  And it really is time for the biggest musical douches regarding Spotify--looking at you Bob Seger, Peter Gabriel, Garth Brooks, Def Leppard--stop fighting the inevitable and get with the program.

Yes, Toni Basil is pretty random and pretty minor, but it's another #1 song that I now have to import from iTunes to keep my (fairly awesome) playlist intact.  Aggravating indeed.

Hey @hansenkd, thanks for coming to the Spotify Community!

Missing or unavailable music is almost always a decision by the artist/label to withhold the content from Spotify. Sometimes it's temporarily unavailable while they sort out legal issues or correct metadata, in which case it'll be back up as soon as they resubmit it to Spotify. While it might be a good idea to contact the artist or label directly and ask why the music isn't on Spotify, you can also fill out this form to let Spotify staff know of your interest. You might also be interested in supporting this idea, which suggests a simpler method for requesting albums missing from Spotify.

Please let me know if I can help with anything else! Happy listening 🙂

Really, the cookie cutter form response? Seriously? Come on, we've all
seen that hundreds of times. Don't insult our intelligence. When we bring
up specific cases, we are interested in hearing about the story behind
specific cases--which Spotify surely knows and could tell us if they wanted
to. Just because every disappearing artist isn't a major news story like
Prince or Tay-Tay doesn't mean there is not a story behind it that Spotify
consumers deserve to hear--a specific one, not the genetic response for
newbies. I had to do some real digging to find out some info on the
AndyvGibb thing, which hopefully Barry and Peta are working out.

@hansenkd,

Sorry for the inconvenience. Unfortunately, the label/artist truly is the only one that can inform you of why this music has been taken off of Spotify, so please reach out to them with any questions 🙂
