Why can't I play Last Of My Kind by Alice in Chains?

Why can't I play Last Of My Kind by Alice in Chains?

There are two songs in Alice in Chains' "Black Gives Way To Blue" album that I can't play - "Last Of My Kind" and "Private Hell". I don't have explicit content turned off in my settings, yet these two songs are greyed out. Why can't I play them? (BTW, you really should show _why_ a song can't be played so you can avoid having to answer questions like these... Makes sense, right?) Thank you for any help you can provide! 🙂

Hey @mdkrajewski, welcome to the Spotify Community!

The availability of content on platforms like Spotify depends on licensing. For example, the copyright owner like the label or artist can decide to take down their content or restrict in certain regions. In such cases, there is not much that the platform can do about it.

This can happen due to licensing changes. Since you have mentioned that the explicit setting is on and the songs are grayed out, it is likely that this is the cause. You can try to play the tracks on another account to confirm availability. If they are not available and the publisher decides to make the content live again, you can stream like before.

To know more about this, you can read Missing music or podcasts.

I hope that sheds some light on the matter. For anything else, don't hesitate to ask in the Community!

What is your current location?
Just testing this magnificent album from Alice In Chains and I can play those songs here in Finland.

Maybe the files are being changed or some contract is waiting to be renewed soon?
Weird if only few songs aren't available to play for you there.
This happened with some Iron Maiden albums last year, and most of the albums were unavailable for while.

Hi, @Samppa3 !  I'm in the U.S.  Thanks for sharing your experience!  🙂
Yes, it is weird.  It's also unfortunate that I get no helpful message...  :^P

Thanks for the response, @Amayy !  I just wish that Spotify would give the reason for greying it out when I select the track - even something basic like "unavailable in your region" or "you have a filter on, dummy."
