Why is Spotify Radio so bad?

Solved!

Why is Spotify Radio so bad?

I honestly want to like Spotify, but the main reason I use these services is for the radio function.  I came from using Slacker Radio which many times better and cheaper.  No matter how many radio stations I create it keeps playing the same 4 or 5 artists no matter how mnay times I down vote them.  With Slacker I can down vote the artists and it will never play it on that station again and I can fine tune the station to a much greater detail.

I'm in the middle of my preimum trial period and I don't see a reason to keep it at this point unless someone can tell me I'm missing something.

How on earth does one connect 70s billy Joel to 60s kinks. You don't! This is blatant commercialism on spotifys part. Playing the artists that earn more money for them. I want to hear more obscure music or album tracks that perhaps aren't aired as often and we're around at the time of the artist I set the radio station up with.

If you want to broaden your music horizons, try the "Discover" function. This works better the more music you listen to. It will give you music similar to what you've been listening to from a broad range of artists and will also give you some somewhat deviating genres from your taste to try.

Also, even if you don't like the radio, Spotify Premium has tons of uses like selecting music on your phone, not to mention a vast music library for the cost of an album a month.

Why do people suggest elaborate work-arounds that don't really resolve the problem, or as in this case, not even related to the problem? the original question was simple. Why does spotify radio deliberately add songs to a radio stream that clearly don't fit the general character of that radio stream, or the likes one has made for/in that stream? And why are dislikes ignored?

Is it due to concessions given to content owners who don't want consumers to be able to control their consumption? Or is it just pure bad product development and disregard of customer feedback?

Agreed. Spotify Radio could use some TLC from the developers.
