"play" site (webplayer) redirecting to "open" site

As of this morning, attempts to visit play.spotify.com (the web player) are redirecting me to open.spotify.com. Verified on Chrome 53.0.2785.116 and Firefox 49.0 on Ubuntu 14.04.

Attached screenshot from Chrome.

March 31, 2017 and it's still happening to me. Extremely frustrating not to be able to see everything that I could see before, all the right click options and functionalities...

This happened to a friend of mine a couple of weeks ago, and now my account is doing the same. It looks like they are phasing in this redesign (but it takes away so much functionality!)
A pretty lame workaround is to use an older browser. (It works on Internet Explorer 11)

Has this been solved.
Functionality lacking:  no add to queue option
bug: right click menu on songs remain even after focus has shifted away from it

same - I'm being redirected from
https://play.spotify.com
to:
https://open.spotify.com/browse/featured

Where's all the functionality of the web player gone? Can't see friends music, or decent list views of my music, radios etc.

I had this problem but cleared my cookies and it seems to work again. The Web Player seems to have undergone a new design as well.

Thanks! That worked. I was wondering what was going on and why I couldn't access my playlists. Looks like the URL has changed to https://open.spotify.com/collection/playlists

I'ts been a day and play.spotify.com is still redirecting to the far-less-functional open.spotify.com. I am now able to actually play songs through it, but I am still missing a lot of things, like the weekly 'for you' playlist.

Have to download the user agent switcher extension for Chrome and set to IE10.  Apparently, Spotify has issues with Chrome... Seriously, CHROME but works in IE....

Still didn't work for me ... downloaded the user agent thing and switched to IE10 but still got the "oops something went wrong - reload" message ...

Using firefox for now - which is sticking to play.spotify.com instead of bumping over to open.spotify.com

Clering cookies did not help. I found an another thread (link below) where they say it is testing. Anyone can confirm that?

Only works in Internet Explorer.  What a joke... Welcome to 2017 Spotify you need to optimize for browsers people actually use...

Yep same issue here. All the extra functionality such as playlists, radio etc. no longer available. As I'm on a Chromebook I'm not sure what else I can do.

same here, there's really nothing I can do, it says "oooops, something went wrong with the playback,"

It's been over a week now for me (Chrome). If this is a testing, as written here: https://community.spotify.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/001/thread-id/175204/page/2

then they must really have some badass huge new features coming...

But seriously, this gets extremely frustrating - I use the web player at work where I am not allowed to install stuff, modify anything in the system, switch browsers and so on, so this really used to by my first and only choice. Now this is a huge step back from the level of service I agreed to pay for in the first place. Quite a bummer...
