Well Spotify Connect is fully added into the desktop beta (which unfortunately isn't available on Linux yet) but my guess would be when that beta is publicly released and the linux guys have time to build a version.

Is there any way to get the protocolls for making your own plugin in linux for this?

I guess you could look at the API somewhere at:

https://developer.spotify.com

Can you try the new Linux client to see if it has connect?

Does it have connect? I'll need to reinstall my HTPC so it would be nice to know in advance if spotify connect is supported in the http://download.spotify.com/beta/spotify-client_1.0.1.1062_amd64.deb version.

I've read from other people that it does have connect, but it is not working properly. I don't have Linux, so I have not tested it.

It worked fine here.

I've reinstalled my HTPC with Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS 64bit and the spotify connect feature works perfectly. Since I only use it via connect I cannot comment on the other desktop features. Music is playing fine over here now.

Thanks everyone!

I installed the newest version.... connect works fine but the multimedia keys are broken now. I'm using xfce4 on xubuntu 14.04 and it didn't work OOB so i used this guide: https://man42.net/blog/2014/04/debian-xfce4-spotify-activate-multimedia-keys/ but that stopped working now :'(

anybody got an idea?

I think I got it ; I can control my linux spotify from another defice ;

but I can not control another device from my linux spotify.

Am I the only one in this case ?

Same here, or I don't get it. Seems like Spotify assumes that Linux is only used for AV-Receivers or HTPCs, not on desktops.

Answered in another thread [1]. I can now control Spotify on my Windows box (attached to TV) from my RHEL7 laptop.

Latest builds are here (latest was 1.0.53.758.gde3fc4b2-33 when I looked):

http://repository.spotify.com/pool/non-free/s/spotify-client/

To convert from .deb to .rpm, just do:

$  alien -r ./spotify-client_1.0.53.758.gde3fc4b2-33_amd64.deb

then install:

$  rpm -i --nodeps --force ./spotify-client-1.0.53.758.gde3fc4b2-34.x86_64.rpm

If deps are missing or it won't run, here's my install guide.
