[Bug] Discover Weekly playlist not refreshed with remote play

[Bug] Discover Weekly playlist not refreshed with remote play

Plan

Premium

Country

the Netherlands

Device

desktop PC and laptop

Operating System

openSUSE Linux & Ubuntu Linux

(I don't think this problem is Linux-specific, but Linux is what I'm using)

My Question or Issue

The following happens every Monday, when a new Discover Weekly playlist becomes available:

  • the desktop PC has loaded (and played) the previous week's playlist
  • on the laptop, I navigate to Discover Weekly
  • on the laptop, the playlist refreshes to show this week's songs
  • on the laptop, I start playing the playlist and the first song of this week starts playing
  • on the laptop, I select "Connect to device" to play on the desktop (which has proper speakers)
  • the desktop now starts playing the first song from last week's playlist

This problem can be worked around by navigating to the Discover Weekly playlist on the desktop, causing it to refresh there. From then on, the playlists are in sync and remote play works as expected. But having to do that extra step on the desktop itself eliminates much of the convenience of having remote play in the first place.

I have this same problem between my phone running Android 13 and my desktop PC running Windows 11. I have to open the Discover Weekly playlist on my desktop Spotify, and I'll quickly see the playlist change from last week's listing to the current one. On Android it won't allow playing any of the new Discover Weekly songs on the desktop while it's out of sync, instead it just reports a vague "network error". I think this is a bug with the desktop version of Spotify.
