Discography List View Missing on Ubuntu

Discography List View Missing on Ubuntu

Operating System

(Ubuntu Linux)

My Question or Issue

Hello, dear community! After the recent update, it became harder to see the complete list of tracks for the particular artist. In the old version, they were available right from the get-go on the artist page. After hours of trials and errors I discovered that they are now available from the "Discography" view.

Web player and Windows app offer a control to choose between grid and list view (See the first screenshot attached). You can choose to view the albums only (grid) or the list of albums with tracks on the same page (list).

However, the control seems to be missing on Ubuntu Linux app (see second screenshot attached). IMO, this feature is crucial to have. Dear moderators, please let me know whether spotify team plans on fixing this.

Food for thought for developers/managers: spotify seems to have plenty of information to analyze what device and what features every user uses in the app. Why not creating a simple tour/notes/etc. to make the switch to the new design less painful? I personally was very frustrated with the changes and was digging around for several hours 😞

Hey @yuuurchyk

The Linux app is not actively supported on the same schedule as the Windows and Mac desktop apps. So from time to time the Linux app will be updated, but in general it will be slower to get the changes you see in the Windows and Mac desktop apps. The web player has the same infrastructure as the Windows and Mac desktop apps but with less features.

From the Linux download page:

"Spotify for Linux is a labor of love from our engineers that wanted to listen to Spotify on their Linux development machines. They work on it in their spare time and it is currently not a platform that we actively support. The experience may differ from our other Spotify Desktop clients, such as Windows and Mac. You can tell us what you think and ask other users for help at the Desktop (Linux) board in The Spotify Community forum."

Hopefully you'll see this change eventually!

It's so awesome that someone at Spotify is doing this in their sparetime. Thank you!

That being said, it's sad that the Linux desktop app is not getting at least some priority at Spotify by day. With all IoTs and the android app they are definitely already making clients for other *nix devices.

Hopefully the work need to be done to release for Linux is easier now after the new UI consolidation?

I see the latest stable snap-release is from 03/22 (1.1.55.498.gf9a83c60), but found out there is a newer release in the latest/candidate channel - 04/08 (1.1.56.595.g2d2da0de).

I tested the candidate, but unfortunately it did not seem to have the list view change.

Thanks again for supporting Linux, let's hope the new releases will keep on rolling out.

FYI this view is now available on the latest Spotify Linux release (from snap info -> 1.1.67.586.gbb5ef64e 2021-09-01)
