Discovery bug: suggestions seriously degraded

Discovery bug: suggestions seriously degraded

I have been using the discovery tool with great success for a long time.

I think it has been one of the best tools the Spotify team brought to the service, because it managed to very frequently suggest music that was similar to my tastes

For reasons that I do not understand, today my "discover" tab has been literally "spammed" by what is "trending" near me, or what is "popular" in my area, or what is "popular" right now in Spotify.

Suddenly 99 out of 100 suggestions are completely irrelevant to what I have in all my playlists - so the discover tab is completely destroyed.

I think that this is actually a bug - discover/suggestions should be affected by your listening habits, and not by where you live.

Hey @akouris

Sorry to hear of your troubles with Discover! We'd love to help out.

Just to get a grip of things, can you let us know the following:

- Version of Spotify
- Make and model of device
- Operating System running on the device

Let us know these and I'm sure I can get things looked into for you. 🙂

Thanks in advance!

Hello @Jason,

Thank you for your prompt response.

The problem appears on the latest public osX desktop client (0.9.14.13.gba5645ad), and the latest public iOS/iPhone client (1.8.1.8).

Devices are iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2012) running Yosemite 10.10, and iPhone 5s running iOS 8.1

I am located in Athens, Greece.

Although up until recently all suggestions where based on my listening habits, the discover section now is populated by over 90% by suggestions based on what is popular near me / what is trending near me.

To give you an idea of how absurd the suggestions are, even though I used to have ambient/lounge/drumnbase music, right now I have suggestions for Greek folk music and heavy metal albums because "they are trending near me"!
