I recently install spotify from snap on Ubuntu 16.04, when playing music, the menu sound does not recognize spotify, so i cannot control music from menu sound.
It seems a bit cumbersome, but I guess the apt package spotify-client-gnome-support is needed. When I had this apt package and spotify snap I was able to control spotify by the icon tray sound menu.
I have the same issue on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, Spotify installed by snap.
Notice Spotify.desktop haven't actions blocks within file and locate on /snap/... directory, in difference Rhythmbox.desktop located on /usr/share/app-install/desktop.
I could try to fix it manually, but cannot backup before.

After remove viresion which was installed from snap, and then install via command line as debian package, the issue has been resolved.
