Local mp3 files won't play on 15.10 wily - explosive rage

I thought I had already posted this but I can't fnd the message so I guess not. Apologies anyway if it's duplicated.

I have seen similar problems set and sometimes solved for other versions, but not for Wily. I have some mp3 files which play fine in Amarok and VLC but not in Spotify. Spotify seems to 'think' they are playing in the main window, but there is no spot in the progress bar - moving or still - and no sound.

I have seen version info requested elsewhere; so results of spotify --version and ffmpeg -version below.
